Sorry I missed the cars and coffee this weekend but I had a great excuse. I know that its not Ferrari stuff but it was great stuff indeed!!With apologies to the Ferrari community you have to appreciate the historically significant cars at this event in Daytona Florida. Held once every three years cars from around the world with race provenance come to Daytona International speedway to recreate the past. Over 300 historically significant cars AND THEIR DRIVERS play on the track in competition classes. They race these pricelesss cars like they had a garage full of replacement parts. The access is virtually unencumbered and the drivers of the past are right there with you admiring the cars and sharing stories. Nothing I have ever been to (maybe the Montery historics is close)combines the access, size, historical significance and combination of concours and track driving like this event. Whether your a history buff or not and whether your a Porsche fan or not its a one of a kind event worth attending. Lets have a little contest...can anyone identify any of these cars?? Enjoy Jon in Delaware

Great hardware! Wasn't the 917 the featured car or was it the 962?

Correct me if I am wrong, but is that pink #23 labeled as butcher pork cuts in German? That is a hilarious. Maybe Wetpet should paint his car with stripper's body parts diagramed.

Yes the car in portioned pork is called the Pink Pig.The 917 cars were the featured model and there were no less than 25 of them there. Plus 962 models as well. Im suprised no one has commented on the car with the 16 cylinder engine!!! It has an interesting connection to Ferrari Racing. Jon in Delaware

I was counting those intakes and wondering about that. What's the story? Is it 2 8's put together? we need to see more pictures.

I spoke with the owner of the Mark Donahue 917. He said once on the track the car pulled a wheelie at 100 and he almost peed his pants. Those cars are monsters!

    thanks for sharing

JB, that isn't the same car. It is a 959, but the one we drove in FL was red. Still cool after all these years.

GRC, you're color blind...among other things.

Now for the trivia contest, I was a former P car nut and racer before coming to the darkside...

    Top to bottom.
    1) 356C
    2) 959
    3) Brumos 935-driven by Peter Gregg and possible Hurley Haywood
    4) 16 cylinder 917-engine was tested by the factory for Can Am before deciding to go with the flat 12 turbo instead. Most likely the Ferrari reference you mention was that F1 and Prototypes were tapping Enzos bank account so hard that he sold shares of Ferrari to Fiat to pile some more cash in the bank to remain competing in both. The Ferrari in question was the 512M.
    5) 935 known as "Moby Dick" in Martini colors
    6) 993
    7) 917 known as "pink pig" with a 956 behind it. A yellow 917/30 Can Am car in the far background.
    8) Texaco 962.

    How'd I do?

    1. 997TT/GT2/3, followed by 356C. :) The darkside is cool though.

Spang308 your the man! the Ferrari reference is that Ferry Porsche leaked photos of the 16 cylinder car(two 908 motors back to back) to throw Ferrari off the trail of Porsche that season. The yellow car on track is the famous RUF Yellowbird. 589 HP!! The car is a beast and the acceleration was unworldly. Here are some more photos for the triva buffs....

When RUF developed and introduced the original Yellowbird, the 993 was just a glint in Ferdinand's eye. In the year of its birth (1987), the Yellowbird would have been based on the then available 911. If production lasted into the next series, then RUF would have used the 964. There were several Yellowbirds produced by RUF (maybe 30 or so?), but I think they stopped producing them before the 993 came out. Don't quote me on this...I'm going by memory!

Well Jerry hate to correct you but that is in fact a yellowbirdRS from RUF. It is a later iteration of the original yellowbird made famous in the 930 turbo era. It was on display at the RUF vendor area before going out on the track to show its stuff. Jon in Delaware

I was a little distracted, but IMHO the 959 was WAY hotter than she was. Especially with all the drama after the shoot. Plus, I got to drive the 959...she never offered the same with her!
