I am having difficulty getting a ride in a 355 or 360 just to see what they are like. I dont want to bother LFSC(Jim) yet because now is not the time. Last thing I want to do is waste peoples time. So.....

I am considering joining Exotic Care Share in Palantine. They have 1 348, 355, 355 F1. So my possibilty of trying them out are good, except for the 360. What I dont like is investing cash in something with little return other than the experience of getting the knowledge I need(which is the whole idea anyway)

Do any of you have opinions on if this is a good idea. If I am to get a good and I mean good example of driving requirments and capablities(more for me than the car ) Is this a good way to go? Does anyone have any experience with Exotic Car Share. I have not heard anything bad, and I have seen them at the Ferrari Show awhile back on Oak Street. From the website they have, it looks like they do take care of the cars but that really is not saying much.

Thanks for any help or opinions.

    Jon

    Just to reaffirm,

I am not looking for joy rides or free rides. I just want to get some real time exposure so I know what I want. I have a feeling that feeling is usually common(free rides). Just wanted to clarify.

They do, or did, have a 360.

Ed's Affordable Auto Repair does the repairs on all of their cars.

Why not test drive cars from the local dealers? LFSC, Continental, etc? Its the business they are in - clearly you're a serious buyer and they should be willing to let you do a short test drive of their inventory cars. Plus, in this market they should be happy to have anyone in their showroom.

For some reason...a personal thing, I dont like to bother salesman(especially exotics) unless I am ready to buy right then. I feel IMO that you get, let say, better experience with them if your ready to buy. Again I could be wrong. I just cant seem to get over that if your not ready to buy your not serious attitude sometimes. No dealer specific with that comment.

Silver-gt thank you for the response

I agree with Silver-gt. Maybe Jim can chime in to give his opinion.

By the way if you want my personal opinion, get a 360.

Just a suggestion, but Continental has both a 355 and several 360's. David Alexander there will give you his honest opinion of the two. I've dealt with him on my purchase and subsequent maintenance, etc. and he's a pretty straight-shooter. I test drove the Maserati Gransturismo when it first came out with him and he had me drive it much further than I was planning to, even though I think we both knew I wasn't really in the market for one.

Also, you could talk to the guys at Lamborghini Chicago. Scott Rothermel (Sales Manager) used to be the Sales Manager at Continental. He really knows Ferrari's and will give you a very unbiased opinion on the 360 vs. 355 from a driver and a service perspective. I hear the rest of his sales team there are the same way. They are also really low-pressure there. Everyone I've ever talked to says they're great to deal with, and my personal experiences lead me to completely agree. They've got a 360 spider that has been there for some time, and I'm sure they'd love for an interested party to see how they like it.

Just explain your situation to either and I bet you'll get a very unbiased and factual representation of the cars - without a lot of pressure. You could visit both on one day and drive several cars - and you'd only be out some gas money and time. I'm like you and don't like to feel like I'm bothering salesmen - but trust me that these guys a good ones to deal with to help you make your decision.

    Yep, but it's true.

Probably a bad name for a business that works on many exotics, but many of us use him. He's honest and is very fair priced.

    Everyone,

Thank you for the replies, very much appreciated. I assume that since there were no comments about renting one, that not a good idea.

Actually I think it's a great idea, I just don't know any of the rental companies around here to give a recommendation. If you're on the east coast or Miami for a weekend I'd say talk to Gotham Dream Cars, but that might not help you.

If you're looking for a solid F355 there's a gorgeous example at LFSC (at least there was) TdF/tan.

    Townshend,

Actually there is Exotic Car Share in Palatine. Just wondering if anyone had any experience with them and if the cars are good examples.

I had stopped in to discuss purchasing a Gallardo at Lambo Chicago, around when they first opened, it was not a very friendly experience. After waiting a bit for a salesman, I went and requested someone to help me. The guy who helped me was very arrogant, and uninformative. I guess I didn’t look the part, so I was treated as such. I placed an order for a Superleggera with another dealer shortly after, but ended up canceling after I caught wind of the LP560 coming out, and ended up ordering a car from Continental altogether.

I guess it's hard for these dealers sometimes to cater to everyone that walks in the door, but it really sucks when you are a serious buyer and treated this way. Needless to say I have not bought a car from a dealer that has treated me as such. Continental welcomed me and treated me right from the start. I have seen a lot of positive comments from other people regarding Lambo Chi, just unfortunate I did not have the same experience.

Continental sponsored their annual fall trackday last Thurs. Dave was busy druming up some interest from clients in a 360 , a Maser and I believe a 430 coupe that they had brought with them for the day. Anyone even vaguely interested was allowed to take the cars around the track. I'm sure if you talk to Dave and explain your interest in driving one of their cars I'm sure he would be happy to oblige.

Sorry, what I meant was I was not aware of any good or bad reviews of any place around here. I've heard of Exotic Car Share, but never heard anything other than they exist. Oddly enough I can't recall seeing anything on here about them which is strange IMHO.
