A big, burly man visited the pastor's home and asked to see the minister's wife, a woman well known for her charitable impulses. "Madam," he said in a broken voice, "I wish to draw your attention to the terrible plight of a poor family in this district. The father is dead, the mother is too ill to work, and the nine children are starving. They are about to be turned into the cold, empty streets unless someone pays their rent, which amounts to $400." "How terrible!" exclaimed the preacher's wife. "May I ask who you are?" The sympathetic visitor applied his handkerchief to his eyes. "I'm the landlord," he sobbed. ________________________ DL
Econ 101...rent control causes a shortage in affordable housing. Ends up actually hurting those it is supposed to "help". Rent control is a VERY stupid idea, which is why it came from the mind of a liberal. Go figure.
I'm unfamiliar with econ 101 classes, so I can only ask that you elaborate just a little more or point me in the right direction to read up on this. In another case, I know of an artist in Manhattan who has a studio apartment. He pays, roughly $500 a month, which is the same thing he's been paying since the 1950's due to rent control. /end sidenote.
Quote:"Apparently, either my thread title is just TOO witty or you replied without reading the joke." HA! Either the Fchat members are really smart or really stupid. (jk)
I got the joke (and rather enjoyed it) . Just trying to give Schatten the info he was looking for. Brad
Got the joke...just wanted to highjack the thread and ping on the poorly thought out concept of rent control.
