Is there a place, or person in Chicago that will rent or loan Ferrari tools.

I bought a new steering wheel and hub, and need to R+R the hub that is on there. I can't see spending $150 to use a tool once then put it on the shelf never to be used again.

I am getting ready to do a clutch job also...

I would however pay a rental fee :)

If I have to buy one I will, just looking to avoid that.

As soon as i started DYI automechanic I made it my habit always BUY the tools i needed.
Now more than 25 years later i still do and i've never hd any regrets any single day or dollar.
It's just to nice to have everything for a job on the shelf..

I made both of these tools for myself, and used them just once or twice. I certainly can loan them to you when I am back from business traveling. I am in California so you have to pay for shipping fee both ways. No need for a deposit, but I sure like to have them back when you are done.

If you find others in your area willing to lent them to you, well, have at it.

On my other project, I accumulated many tools that can be also used in this Ferrari. I don't mind loaning my tools out but personally I like having my own tools, I've just started out with the Ferrari so I am in the accumulating phase now. This maybe strange to some of you but I am sucker for high quality tools I like them just as much working and driving my car.

I believe that there is a F-car club in Chicago. They may have a list of special tools that members have. My personal rule is that I never borrow the same tool twice. If I need it again, I buy it. If it's the steering wheel hub, and transfer case gear, retaining nuts you need special sockets for, I think they can be had for less than $150, or made from an existing socket.
Having said all that, even working on these cars yourself, is still pricey. Special tools are part of the price of admission. As for only using a special tool only once: "If I had a dollar for every special tool I thought I'd only use once......"

I just ordered the clutch tool and the steering wheel tool. May only use them once, but I will have them.

I hope to put my wheel on in time for the local show by me on the 17th.
