Renting a Ferrari

This is probably the best response in the entire thread.
I suggest doing something else with that money, but it's your money do what you want to.

Thanks, I think its a good idea. A little pricey, I was fortunate enough to get it as a gift from my wife and parents. I still think it's worth the price of admission.

 

Noah, can I rent an exotic from you and drive around and do crazy stuff?
I don't have a lot of money, but my wife's uncle does. He has no kids and, with any luck, will be dead in 30 years or so. So, I'll have have the money when he dies. Do you rent to 80 year olds? Will you blame me if I burn out the clutch?
Never mind, rent me an automatic 360.

Supercar life is a one day experience in multiple exotics on a track with training. One of the instructors, Darius Grala, is a good friend of mine and won the Ferrari challenge multiple times. He is also an instructor in the Ferrari Driving Experience.

Been around the longest, operates only in NJ or FL so the operating costs are lower and therefore so is the entry fee. $895 per driver (free passenger allowed)

 

I should add the Supercar Life is a great experience -- we've known these guys for a long time, but the cost is something major to consider -- $5000 vs. $895 - $1500 for the on-street driving events that we and others offer.

 

We don't, I'm afraid. Our limit is below what others require, though -- we'll rent to anyone 21 and over. The basic issue is that of experience -- it takes time to be familiar with driving enough to be even remotely comfortable behind the wheel of an exotic. I'd say a minimum of 3 - 4 years of experience is required. We don't put the cutoff at 25 because I think that's irrational -- in fact, we've had fewer 21 - 25 year olds get into accidents with our cars than older folks

It seems very true based upon the number of younger drivers 18- 21 that seem to obtain exotics from the family or wherever and promptly ball them up.........been plenty of sad cases posted on this site......

 

The minimum age for the Car and Driver Live event is actually only 21. Most events like this will be 21 or 25, I doubt anyone would let someone younger drive an exotic.

I did this as a gift from my wife at the beginning of this year, and it was unbelievable! An experience like I never thought I'd have... F-Cars were 430 and 599, Lambo Gallardo SL, 911 Turbo, Z06, SLR McLaren... got to talk to Didier Theys, who has a long history in a lot of different racing series...

Very cool! And for the price of a day and a half in the 360 "Auto" that you quoted...

 

If you're not able to take the car on the track what's the point? I would rather rent a V6 Mustang and put some Toyos on there to go all out for a track weekend than spend $1500 to rent an F-car for a day just to be seen driving around in an F-car. (Yes, I have seen people rent a V6 Mustang Auto, put on some race tires and drive faster than 95% of the people on the track but...these were expert drivers to begin with). Learning some high speed track skills > posing. Oh and going fast in a straight line is probably the most boring thing I have ever done...unless at the end of that straight line is a nice curve, but then all your are doing is setting up to take the curve fast so I'll stick with what I said about straight lines...

To answer the original question though, most websites seem to indicate that 21 is the min. age and that you will be best off just calling the exotic rental places if you are serious.

I was told that in most states you have to be 25 to rent a car, or the dealer prefers for you to be as does your insurance. I had to rent a car for a short trip and Enterprise turned me down for a Toyota because I was "under 25"...

I can not imagine that an exotics rental dealership would allow somebody so young to take out a Ferrari for a day. The Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge dealership I worked for locked the SRT8 models on the showroom floor to keep people from sitting in them. I'm sure for a grand they wont let a 20 year old take a Ferrari for a day. How could THEIR insurance say "yeah thats O.K." ???
