If I were to acquire a used black Ferrari (1980-2000 non-hyperexotic, ie not an F40) and repainted it professionally to be red, and then resold it in a couple years, would that ruin or improve it's value? Are people likely to say "yay it's red!" since everyone wants red, or say "ick, it's repainted" (even if it's possibly for a legitimate reason, say a black one that had a few dings and scratches and what not over time and you wanted it pristine for resale) and consider it a bad sign?

I say don't worry about value, especially with a 308, there are tons of worn ones around and I think if you bought a ratty black one and made it nice and red it would be great. I love 308 cars, they are so beautiful. There is a black one at a gas station around the corner from my house with no dash in it. Heck if I could get it for a few bucks, fix it up and paint it red, I'd be happy. Now if you do this with say a 1999 or 2000 360, it is not a good idea. I think if you totally change the car then you have to paint a lot more of the inside stuff, so could be more of a pain even if you do it yourself.

I would think on a non-hyper exotic a repaint professionally done with neither detract or add to the value. The repaint is bad, but the red is good, so it all evens out.

Factory color, done to a very high standard, probably won't hurt on 308. Red is very popular on 308s because they are a first Ferrari for many.

If it were my car I would stick with black. Fresh black paint on a 308 would be stunning.

Painting a Ferrari red from another colour is a bit of a cliché, but at the end of the day it's your car and it's for you to be happy with it, not everyone else.

Chris Evans takes a bit of a beating about painting his cars white, but at the end of the day, it's only paint and cars can always be repainted (and in his case we're talking about some high-end cars!).

I say buy it, have it how you want it and enjoy it!

Why not choose another non-standard period color and stand out?

Don't get me wrong. I love these things, but REALLY got excited when I saw another color come through the door.

There's a purple 348 Spider out there that I hope crosses my path. Factory PPG color. It is gorgeous and I've never seen another one.
