Repainting black metal part on 355 doors

    Dunno what the black triangular part is on top of the door that seems to help guide the glass up and down,but on my 355 its bubbling and looks awful. The bit around the wing mirrors is starting to go to and is made of the same stuff. I'm told its aluminium painted black,but has anyone repainted this part themselves and how would I go about it?

    hi there,

    ive just done my Mondial mirrors, and its relatively easy to do.......

    remove mirror from car, masking any plastic parts.
    i then fitted a fine emery type attachment to my dremmel, removing all the
    original 'satin black' paint.
    then used 400 grade wet'n'dry paper to ensure a really smooth finish.
    clean all bare metal surfaces with some white spirit or thinners, and then...
    sprayed the offending area with 'satin black' etch paint bought at a recent
    auto jumble (about £5 for 500ml) apparently its the same stuff as put on
    black trim by most car makers. (sprayed 3-4 coats with a mates airbrush)

    perfect........ and only a couple of hours from start to finish!!

    no worries.......

    the mirrors are only about 1% of what im doing to the whole car!
    how many F.owners have stripped down 60% of their car at home, ripped out the interior, re-trimmed, re-painted and sorted out the last few owners botches for less than a £2000??

    hard work but lots of fun, knowing how all the bits work, and having the
    satisfaction of knowing you did it youself!!

    now, where did all these spare bits come from???????????
