Hey ya'll, i have a 2002 360 modena with 13k miles and i'm going to be getting the timing belts service. Does $2500 seem like a fair price by a mechanic thats been working on ferraris for 10+ years (and it is at a repair facility, not his house lol)?? Here is the list of what he's going to do:

    -timing belts with tensioners
    -oil change
    -coolant change
-installing my new porterfield brake pads (already purchased)
    -new cabin filters
    -new drive belt
    -brake fluid
-picking up the car as well

If it is Terry Myr, he is a well respected Ferrari Mechanic in the Detroit area. Give a call to some of the FOC Michigan members, and they'll set your mind at ease.

    belts ~ 2 x $150 = $300
    tensioners ~ 2 x $300 = $600
    pollen filter ~ $100
    oil and filter ~ $100
    alt/ac/ps belts ~ $100

Just the parts alone add up to about $1200

Dealership would charge nearly double that! And mine would not install any non-Ferrari part that could affect safety (like brake pads)

Are you using the Hill tensioners? Make sure he's installing the new timing belts with the kevlar webbing on the inside also.

Ferrari of Central Florida is charging $1,099 for belts alone with labor included.

$935 for oil change, pollen filter and brake flush with labor included.

    You're getting a good deal.

$935 for an oil change and brake fluid change? That's highway robbery. Is that what people are out there paying for an oil change on a Ferrari?

Can't believe people feel the need to pay "more" for basic services from a dealer or exclusive indy shop ($935 makes no sense) thinking they are getting something special. You do not need to be a Master tech to change oil (unscrew, drain, rescrew, change filter, refill oil, check for leaks - fundamentally the same for a any car Chevy, BMW, Ferrari, etc) and lets be honest a case of Mobil-1 at Sams Club is the same oil anywhere, but you can pay a lot more if you want at the dealer or highend shops. I can and have done my own oil/fluid changes (but don't care for the mess and take my cars to shops) and I have owned numerous vehicles, most have been higher end cars. I never pay "crazy" prices for services (dealer prices). Just find a good indy shop that is familiar with the car at a minimum and do your own analysis of material costs (filter, fluids, gaskets). If you're willing to pay a guy literally hundreds of dollars in labor costs for a relatively simple task you deserve the monetary rape that is happening to you.

Don't take me wrong, there is always a time and need for a true knowlegble Tech to touch your beloved machines...but sorry to break the news, oil/filter/fluid change isn't one of them...

Cam seal leakage is an almost non existant problem on 360's. We never change seals with a belt job and we service many high mileage cars.

oil costs about $75 or so (retail) and a filter is I think $40 or so (again retail). The filter is maybe $75 or $100 (which is a total rip off - it should cost about $10 for what you get). That leaves a lot of labor?

And then people(next buyer or tire kicker) complaint if one is to service the cars at independent or if one is doing the oil changes or other easy stuff at home!

The last two guys to touch my car learned their trade at the Ferrari factory in Italy; whether they are independent or working in the factory shop doesn't matter to me, their training and background does.

$900 is a little high for and oil change and "checks". If they removed the under panels, and pulled all 4 wheels, measured everything, pulled the Manuel and called up the specs maybe 4 hours..tops.
Lets see labor rate is what over there $115 per hour? Higher maybe? Just guessing. That would mean that they would have to have a tech working on that car constantly for about 6 hours and add your parts. Did they really do 6 hours of work to your car?? That's quite an inspection..

Is it unusual for the cam seals to leak oil?

FWIW, I had my rear cam seals replaced at around 18k miles. It didn't seem like it was that expensive, but then again, I also had the clutch replaced and a 15k service done at the same time.
