During my restoration of the parking brake system I found that the engine hood release was busted up and someone was using zip ties to make it work. It looks like someone cut a slit so they could remove the cable also. Surprisingly it did work!

It appears the design is such that you would have to remove the whole cable to get this thing off? I suspect this comes from some other car that uses two cables originally since there are two holes and only one is needed. I don't see where this part is used on another Ferrari that might have two cables in the catalog, but I could be wrong.

Of course this would not do....so I got the TIG welder out and fixed it. I also modified it so that it could be removed easily without taking the entire cable assembly out. I drilled a hole to the size of the cable collar like original and then made a slot on the other side big enough for the clevis to get through. I then made a slit for the cable to pass. This should be stronger than original since I made it a bit thicker and now it will be easy to remove for service of the parking brake handle etc.

I used my etching primer and SEM bumper paint that I used on the other interior parts to touch up where I made the repair. None of this will be seen, but I wanted it to look decent.

I am not sure if it is common for these to break like this, but if yours does, don't pay that rediculous price for another one. Any decent welding shop could weld it back up for you for $15 or so I would think. Then you can just drill a new hole, or modify it like I did for easier removal.

Still waiting on my other parking brake cable to put everything back together...

Thought I would let you know, the hole that allows the cable end to pass through will also need to be large enough to let the cable pass through. In order to get the pin in place the cable has to come through. It is too hard to pull enough slack in the cable and get the pin through with the handle pulled enough to allow the pin to pass.

I just used a drill bit the same diameter as the largest portion of the cable and ran it through the center of the ovaled hole.

Any tricks for removing/reinstalling the cable?

My handle was messed up when I started, so it came apart easy when I cut all the zip ties off that someone used to keep it in place. If yours is not broken, then I suspect you have to undo it at the latch in order to make slack.

After that, you could modify it for easy installation/removal next time if you wanted.
