Repairing Front End

Has anyone ever done any repair work to the front of their Mondial; the area below the grill? Mine has a dimple in it that I tried to straighten without removing anything but I think I just made it worse. It looks like from the underside (where the lip scrapes the pavement) that there may be rivets attatching that piece on, but I can't be sure. Looks like the front has scraped the pavement numerous times (I think I used the front end of my Lotus like a bulldozer, it was so close to the ground). It's an '85 Mondial.

are your referring to the front spoiler?

Duh! Yes. I don't know why I couldn't think of "spoiler". I feel like an idiot, but yes, that's exactly it. I want to remove the spoiler and see if I can't get that blemish out. I think if I can put something behind it, I can work it out, but I have to get behind it. That's where I was was messing up.

 

You need to take of the covers inside the front fenders to get access to the inner screws and nuts. you als 4 or 6 on the front and then it slides right off. Will be doing mine in 4 weeks sanding it up to get a smooth surface and spay it in color.

 

So I took mine off , (it does not require removing the inner covers but it helps) two bolts each side 7 screws across bottom

My spoiler was basically chewed up with no attachment across front bottom, it had been patched before but very thinly imo hence the detachment

On the front side I used duct tape to hold the pieces together and act as a mold

I used the dry wall patch screen in the corners and fiberglass resin and cut strips of fiberglass tape all from the backside,

my before pics got deleted so shown is after of the reinforced corners and the bondo stage
