Hello I am new to the forum. I was trying to research any posts or advice on repainting manifolds on a '03 360 spyder. I recently purchased this car from the Jersey coast and it has some significant corrosion / flaking paint on the manifolds (see picture below). I will be due for a major service in the next 12-18 months so planning on having the manifolds pulled and refinished properly at that time. However, in the mean time I wanted to explore repainting them with some VHT wrinkle paint purchased from my local Ferrari dealer. I know it will probably not be "factory correct" but hoping to make it look better short term before the next major service.

I'm sure there are probably some great posts/discussions in the archives on this topic but being new I don't seem to be able to find anything too specific (still learning but this is a great forum). Thanks in advance for any help/guidance......

I used this when I repainted the oil reservoir. The hardest part was getting the old paint off. The surface needs to be quite rough for the paint to ”bite” properly.
Also available in red (Google around to find locally), and I know a few guys have tried it with good result.
You’ll find a good ”how to” on this web page: https://aldousvoice.com/2012/09/11/ferrari-360-disareator-refurbishment/ Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Thanks Mickster looks like a nice job. I bought the red VHT paint from my local dealer here in Atlanta. I think removing the manifolds would be a big job from what I have been told, so hoping I can tape everything off and paint in place and get a decent result. If anyone had done this I'd love to hear how it went. Thanks again

Not a chance. It needs to be fully disassembled to do the job correctly. Also, you need to bake the parts to get the wrinkle effect. That should be done after a short flash. Also, these coatings take a good amount of time to harden so they will be soft for a while so you need to be very careful.

I've had good luck with the VHT Wrinkle Red without baking them in a oven. Their red paint is pretty close to the OEM. My advice is to paint as evenly as possible and don't put so much on that it runs. Even coat means even finished product. When applying it may look like its not working, just give it time. Better to do it in warm weather (70-75F) and no breeze. If it looks like the wrinkle is only happening is spotty area, do not/do not/do not apply more paint.

Just a friendly note.... Don't take your 360 to FoA for a basic service type job, call my independent Ferrari certified tech, he is used by many around Atlanta. Heroes great work, uses correct parts, and is cheaper, plus a great guy.

Here is a photo of VHT against and OEM manifold - the color is not close at all. The VHT is too orange. Is it bad? No, but it's just not factory correct and don't try to do a touch up with it as it will never match. The VHT is on my 355 plug cover the part that says "Ferrari" is a 360 OEM finish.

I’ve never seen the two side by side before. You’re right - there’s quite a difference...

There are some powders that also come quite close to the factory colour and finish, but also obviously require disassembly and baking. Image Unavailable, Please Login
