I'd do it and then replace the 430 with a 458.

They are different cars for sure

355 or 458 are my choices, I dont think I will get rid of the 355 when I get the 458 I like both that much and they are apples and oranges in my eyes

Cnt comment on 458 as i never driven one. Maybe i should keep 355 at least a year or more and then decide to part or not. So far my old girl is in good health with all service and maintenance up to date.

That's a tough call both are good in their own right. Since I like to put miles on then I wold go for 430 . Maintenance is less .

+1. I have driven 360's & 430's and the 355 is more my taste. Small. Nibble. Quick. Vintage. Pretty lines.

However, I will be getting a 458 someday. And I see very little reason to sell my 355 when I do it. I might collect some extra nickles from the sale of the 355...but not enough to get too excited about and not enough to make a very big dent in the acquisition price of the 458 spider.

BUT! To each his own. Lots of folks swear by the 430 and it is a great car.

180 to 190. I plan to get a 458 at some point and hope to keep the 355.

I like the 430 but like the 355 better

Simple a matter of taste, I'm sure the 430 is more technically advanced.

Chances are that in a year the 355 will be worth what it is today, the 430 will be worth less. Wait and enjoy the 355. What's the rush?

Good point. But if you ask for my opinion - the 355 is my first and up to date my only Ferrari, but the F430 is reallly my favorite. Why? I don't know. I just like it most. For sure I would swap my 355 for a 430, but since I have put so much money into my baby to make her mint, I would really prefer to drive her several more years. After all - until now she costs me more than a 430 for sure lol .

Half the fun is wrenching on the car and enjoying your efforts. I find fiddeling with my 355 very relaxing. The 430s are wee bit higher tech involved and all the trickle down fixes are not there yet.

+1 I do not really feel the 360 or 430 had much more to offer other than more power. I feel the 458 has more to offer. Also drove a 458 and it feels way better. The 360 and 430 for me feel big and not as agile. Maybe because they are easier to drive you do not feel like your going as fast. Not sure it's definately a personal choice.

I did the exact same thing. My 355 is now gone and I'm on the hunt for a 430. I would say do it!! Loved my 355 for the three years I had it though.

There is an excellent article in this month's Evo comparing old school supercars (F40, F50, F1, Carrera GT, Zonda, Noble, & Murciellago) to current supercars. The newer cars are of course better on paper and numbers. But are they more fun? An F1 430 vs a 6 speed 355, I would take the 355 any day for exactly the same reasons pointed out in the article. The feel of the car and how you communicate with it. I have felt for some time that newer cars are a bit of hang on and the driver aids will save you. Still think you're an F1 driver? Turn them off and go hard...I think the experience would become frightening to some quickly, or at the very least a lot less enjoyable. With the 80s and 90s cars, you respect the car from the first drive and accept its limitations and work with them. Make a mistake, you and everyone else will know it. To me, that's the challenge and the reward.

You've had the 355 3 months? Drive it some more. 430s are only getting cheaper.

You don't really start to understand how to drive an F355 until you get several hundred laps on road race tracks. It is a car that has very high levels of rewards simply because it also has very high levels of punishment when you get it wrong.

You will learn how far in front of the car you have to keep your head,
How quickly the car can bite,
and how quickly it will willing follow where-ever the driver signals.

I'm a little confused why you would want to move to a F430 so soon after getting the 355. I love the 355 and would (and could) never replace it with anything but I don't drink the kool aid. I know it has many drawbacks and is far behind current models in performance. So my question isn't "don't you know the 355 is better?" but rather was the 355 somewhat of an impulse purchase for you and now you realize you would rather have a F430? If that is the case then moving onto a 430 now might be best for you but I would make sure that wouldn't be an impulse purchase as well. Maybe you would enjoy a CS more than a F430? Maybe something elses?

doubt i'll jump ship and only reason is i can buy the 430 for $92k but it does have 55k miles on it. More i think abt it it doesn't make sense as i already invested too much in 355 (cost of her plus sales tax, shipping, maintenance and parts)

Stick a Capristo on it and that 430 will sound like a tin can being kicked down the street by comparison.
