Would it be possible to do so without any rebuilds?? Why I´m asking, is that I´m about to buy a Lancia Thema 8.32, that I´ve been told has the 348 engine, instead of the original 2,9l 32v Ferrari V8...but I´m a bit confused, because eveything looks like it was original...and I have no idea of how to id the engine, if it really is the 348 V8....can someone help me, please?

I'm pretty sure the Lancia engine is a slightly softer 328 (not 348) engine which would make the transfer easier but I'm not sure whether the mounts are different 328 vs 308 - actually even as I write I recall a friend who blew his 308 QV and had a 328 engine put in - hope this gives a little confidence if not actually technically very helpful !

I believe that the Lancia version has a 90 degree crank rather than the 180 degree crank in the 308 engine.

I could of course be mistaken as I am in Holland...

    All previous comments are correct....

the Lancia is a reworked 3.0 QV with 90 degree crank. Output is from memory, 190BHP, but torque is about the same but lower in the RPM range.

Since the 348 block is essentially the same as the 308/328, and has the same bore centres, there is no reason why you couldn't put a 348 in a 308/mondial. Only question I have is this: Why not put in a 355 engine? If you are going to go to the massive expense and difficulty of putting a 348 engine in, may as well do the 355 and have the extra 80 BHP. Now, a 308/mondial with 380 BHP sounds VERY nice..... Add the Aussie twin turbo kit, and then you have a $100K 700 horsepower mondial MONSTER.

    BTW - I'd upgrade the brakes :)

No no, the 90° crank is only in Australia, every else it's 180° ;)

INCORRECT! In Australia it is either 270 or 360. You need to look at this from the correct perspective (ie downunder) :)

BTW Australia used to be called New Holland about 300 years ago, so maybe Zertec is onto something....

The thing to do would be to bolt the Thema manifold to the Ferrari engine - look at those runners and TWO throttle bodies!

I'm interested if anyone has a complete Thema manifold.....

the lancia 8:32 engine will not fit into any ferrari without major major reworking-it will not fit onto the gearbox as the bottom face has been machined differently along with a myriad of other small details. i know as i looked at this conversion for a customer of mine.I finally persuaded him to upgrade his 3.0 qv mondial to 3.2 with some high compression pistons and well worked heads along with the inlet manifolds and plenum from the lancia but without the restrictive K-Jet injection.Instead we modified the injector bosses to accept EFI injectors and run the whole lot with a motec ecu. This set up is due to be dynoed next month once we finish our 2-valve race engine developement which currently stands at 365 flywheel bhp and 265 odd lbs of torque-lots of driveability and 9000rpm allon carbs and two valves with CDi ignition

Were 348 motors or transmissions **ever** used in any other production car of any make?

How would one find such things?

    Dell 550,

Where can you get that intake plenum and about how much would it cost? I am going to go to EFI this winter (308QV) and that intake would be perfect.

Do tell more! Has anyone tried putting a 355 engine in a Mondial t? And what is this Aussie twin turbo kit?

There is a lot of off topic noise in that thread, but the info is there. the car is an apparent monster, and the kit is in the 30+K range.

As for putting a 355 donk in a mondial t, well, I have never heard of it, but that does not mean it has not been done.... Should be an easy fit though...
