    Hey.

Is there some special procedure to get your 98 F355 F1 to start once the ECU has been replaced? From what I understand, the security electronics simply send a start/don't start signal to the main ECU. My security electronics are good for sure because the car started fine before sending my ECU to a tuner (I'll leave unnamed); only to have it come back and now the car won't start.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm tempted to buy a new ECU, but need to make sure that there's no special start up procedure for removing/replacing the ECU.

    Thanks,

    Nick

I assume you have cycled the battery kill switch to really turn everything off and then back on, right?

I know. I'm sure something has gone wrong. I just wanted to rule out that maybe there is some pairing of the alarm ecu and motronic that was lost. From everything I'm learning from the board, there is no pairing, meaning that any motronic will work work with any set of security electronics.

"Tuner" is sending an OEM Motronic for me to use while they look into mine to see what went wrong. In the meanwhile, my battery is disconnected :)

I thought that since the ECU had been out of the car for about a week, that there would be no reason to kill the battery.

    Trying now.

In case it makes you feel better:
I chipped my Audi S4, from a "small time" tuner using a well known UK product. It worked fine. Then I wanted to sell the car, so I sent it back to "unchip" it. Insured package UPS, but it was lost. Tuner says someone else signed for it (I think he stole it). At the end of the day I was out an ECU. UPS eventually paid for the ECU, but I didn't count on the car having to be physically in a dealer so that the new ECU could be connected directly to Germany for setup. 75 mile tow, no car for several days... It was a bit of an explanation with the dealer as to how I lost a perfectly good ECU from a car under warranty. But at least UPS refuded me HALF the shipping.

I have two Motronic 5.2 ECUs, one modified and one stock. I can switch them any time with no issues. The stock one came from a salvage yard and worked as soon as I installed it. The modified one came with my car when I bought it.

Cool. The tuner sent me a spare ECU to use while they correct mine (they think they know what went wrong). The spare ECU did start my car. The only problem is that the spare ECU is for a manual; my car is an F1. I figured this out on the first shift! The manual shift ECU doesn't know to cut fuel when the F1 ecu shifts; so the unexpected over-rev was scary!

Anyway... did you ever resolve your p0102 code? I never had that before I drove on this spare ecu. Perhaps my issue is nothing more than the manual ecu parameters being wrong for an f1 car.

The P0102 is the only problem that I still have. I'm pretty sure it has to do with the cable to the MAF, even though I've tried to fix it with new connectors twice. I can reset the codes and let the car run with no P0102 showing up. Then I can wiggle the cable and suddenly get a P0102 code. I also have an intermittent P1451 code which is basically the same issue. I can wiggle the wiring and get the code. I'll probably try to resolve those issues tomorrow now that the weather is improving here.
