Replaced the slave cylinder, as my old one broke at the seam and had full fluid loss. Installed the new HE kit and triple seals, put it all back together, and went for my first drive.

Right away I noticed some rattle noise from the back of the car when driving up my driveway, and thought it was the bypass valve, but realized over time it was coming from the clutch housing. As soon as I got on the main road, if I put any amount of gas to accelerate, the clutch would slip and the RPM’s would rise. It seemed to do fine just casually driving, but if I tried to give anything more, it would slip.

The clutch was fine before all this happened. Just curious if anyone had ideas on what could cause this? Maybe some of the fluid got into the clutch when the slave cylinder burst? But it didn’t look like it did when we removed it? Help?

Did you measure the clutch plate thickness?
Did you repack the flywheel with new grease?

We never touched the clutch outside of removing it to access the slave cylinder

Def sounds like fluid on clutch - just a SWAG

There are accompanying o rings as well. Also depending on the car year the base flange needs to be swapped. Also it does happen that you can fold the seal lip when installing ensuring leaks. Either way, it all comes off for inspection. My guess would be error in process. It can be easy to get wrong, tricky to get right.

Thanks all for the replies. I’ll take it back apart and see if there is anything obvious.

I had this exact same problem - bearing in the old slave wears and allows a worn clutch to still grab, new bearing doesn't have as much play so it will no longer grab. Measure the thickness of your clutch disk, my bet is it's past acceptable wear limits. Ferrari don't let the clutch wear down to the rivets and gouge the flywheel, it starts slipping well before that.

People say don’t fix it if it ain’t broke, but the cars are 30 years old. When I pulled the pumpkin for tob I stuck in an entire new AP clutch assembly and new flywheel and repacked the voith. If I had a nickel for every thread of people resurfacing or replacing JUST clutch plates only to have another issue, well I’d have a lot of nickels.
