Hi, I just repaired the least important thing on the list of things to do and though that maybe some ion this could be of interest in case someone was looking for the correct replacement part.

    The antenna

So, the electric antenna was not working. Of course, it was wired wrong, but the main issue was that the plastic string was totally hard-baked and broken. The repair is easy if you can find the right replacement stalk.

Here is the one that worked for me: replacement antenna for a Mercedes:
    Mercedes-Benz W124 W126 2018270001
The diameter is a hair under the original (8.94 cm) and the tip has the same thread so that one can fit the original antenna tip.

So, you want to remove the antenna from the car, undo the 10mm nut and remove the bell housing. Underneath, you will find three small screws (red) and a cotter pin (blue). The pin hold the nylon wire in place. Remove it and undo the three screws. Then, undo the large screw (yellow) holding the shaft and remove the metal tube and the stalk from the tube. Inside the tube is a tubular copper shim that you will need to adapt to the new stalk. Just lightly bend the top and bottom edges in a little so that it catches on the ends of the stalk so that it does not get pushed out entirely.

To remove and replace the metal end tip to the nylon wire, just lightly heat the metal and pull it out or push it in. Trim the excess and drill a hole for the cotter pin.

When you replace the stalk, leave the tip out by some 5 mm so that it will be flush with the nut on the car.

Once its replaced, test it by attaching the body to the ground and connect one of the wires to +12. One wire makes it go up, the other down.

good luck to all who want their original antenna to go up and down at will!
