Ferrari brothers - Hi there. New 328 owner here again. It's an 86' GTS. I believe it has a Bosch battery in there now - and I want to replace it with an Interstate. Does anybody know the exact Interstate model or the dimensions that should be specified?

    Thank you for your help.

Dean, mate - there are very few new questions so its always worth a look first - in this instance your query is concurrent with Crall's let alone historical

Roger that, it's nothing special ...24R, calling from old memory as the terminals are reversed from normal, but check even that, as the cables can be reoworked to allow a standard terminal config.

Hooking it up backwards is a real PITA....expensive smoke results...

    Dean,

I have an Interstate in my '86 328 GTS. I don't remember the number on it, but I just took the old battery out, went to a local auto parts store that sells Interstate batteries, and they gave me a replacement for the old one. Installed it and it works great! Just be careful with the terminals. Be sure to check which side is negative, which is positive, before you remove the old battery and mark the cables if necessary. You may need a "reverse" battery, which switches the posts, to fit in right.

While you are at it, take a good look at your cable, especially the negative. If they show any signs of corrosion, consider buying new cables (you can use the generic ones from the auto store), cleaning up the attachment points, and making sure you have good connections, especially the ground. And consider cleaning up the two quick disconnects, the one behind the left headlight and the one in the engine compartment as they do get corroded as well.
