What would be the recommended replacement clutch for a 1984 308? Is the Daytona clutch really an upgrade or is it better just to find an oem replacement? I do not track the car. I think I'm due at about 75000 miles on the original.

A Daytona clutch in a 308 is usually a mistake that fits.

    You want a stock clutch.

I squeezed 115,000 out if mine and I DO track it.

It still looked good when we pulled it out. In fact it was in such great shape I hung it on a nail in my garage just as a conversation piece

I had a fresh OEM disc refitted in high-grade Kevlar friction material during my clutch job last year. The apparent cost of the new "bulletproof" durability is that it bites very aggressively and requires one to ease off the clutch very gingerly, which is fine except when you want to engage in rapid heel-and-toe shifts. Would NOT do it again. The OEM clutches are quite good for this power train and perfectly streetable. Call AW Italian in New Jersey and ask for an OEM AP Clutch setup. They are the cheapest I've found anywhere.

Oh, and don't skimp on the cheap throw out bearing; they offer a high-grade one.

My experience with the Kevlar clutch is just the opposite. My clutch engages smoothly and I can easily “feather” it when in traffic.

I did really take the time to adjust the 2 cables which control the pedal free play and the clearance. This is for a 78 308 GTS.

That's what I have on my car for over 12 years now, works great actually except it's kind of stiff on the foot but I've gotten use to it, but I do plan to change it to stock very soon.

I believe the only drawback is the firmness. When I replaced mine, my mechanic called me and told me he was sent a Daytona clutch (why I don't recall). He told me it would fit but I probably wouldn't like it.

Stiffer than stock? My calf hurts thinking about it.

Yea! Way stiffer than stock and it's a bummer during rush hours.
