I make myself some replacement for the boot and bonnet stay. The OEM always failed fast. I used 2 metal strips of 14,5 X 150 mm and 14,5 X 138 mm.
The strips have 5,5 mm thickness. See pictures.
Picture 1 total view : the holes on the end are 8 mm. In the middle I used a inox bolt of 6 x 20 mm.

An angle of 90° is needed at the end of 1 strips. Here the weight of the boot will press the other strip and stay this way. To close the hinge you just have to lift the boot a little. I toke a metal strip of 30 X 165 mm to begin with and cut this in half until 150 mm. The last 15 mm is to make the angle of 90°.
1 hour of work and 3 €'s to get rid of the OEM.
If there are some questions, dont hasitate to ask,

Those measures are for the rear boot stay and engine boot stay. You need only 1 for each boot. For the bonnet stay I hat to use 2 strips of 14,5 X 135 mm.

If you want to go with alternate methods of holding up the lids, why not just buy those little "props" that attach right on to your struts?

They lock the strut in the upright position. You just move the lever out to lower the lid. I think they cost about $5 on JC Witney.

Of course, you could just use a stick. :) :)
