I just found out the Hewlett Packard has discontinued their Natural Tracing Paper for wide format plotters. I used to buy the 36" wide x 150' long rolls, 2" core. I've been told the replacement is their Translucent Bond. Unfortunately, the Translucent Bond is not as "see through" as the Tracing Paper. I'm looking for something that has an opacity of about 25%. Anyone know of anything like this?

I've got a new roll of C3868A natural tracing paper that I'd be happy to sell you.

As a graphic designer I'm just wondering what you do with it...

You can make plots of a house plan in layers , ie walls, electrical, hvac each on a seperate sheet, and then superimpose the sheets to see if there are any problems.- this is why you want to be able to "see" through the sheets.
Obviously you can do layering using a cad program ( an indeed this is how the plans are drawn in the first place) , but it's much easier taking plans to a clients office rather than everyone sitting around looking at a screen....

That's exactly what I use it for. Most of my work is residential so I take the floor plan from the architect, plot it out on the tracing paper, then sketch where the structural items (beams, columns, shearwalls, etc.) need to go before running calculations and drawing everything on CAD. I can then take my sketch and the plotted out plans from the architect to meetings where we can go over these items before the design gets too far along.

It's way easier than taking a computer with it on CAD, plus you can "see" the entire project at once. With CAD, you need to keep panning and zooming in and out. I also use it to overlay on HVAC and plumbing plans to see if there are ducts and plumbing coming down from the upper floors that end up landing on beams so we can adjust those items before they become a problem during construction.

Mike, thanks for the offer on the paper but I think the shipping would be cost prohibitive. I'm really looking for another manufacturer that makes something like this.

I just called them. While they show it on their website, they said they no longer carry it as it has been discontinued. I did find one roll on Amazon yesterday which I ordered for about $50. Hopefully what shows up is exactly what I ordered.

I've already had other suppliers send me Tranlucent Bond instead of the Tracing Paper when they show they have it on their website, then I have to deal with their lame return policies (even though they sent something completely different.)

I was hoping to find another manufacturer that makes something similar to what HP was making. It seems like there are several companies that make bond, vellum, film, etc., but only HP makes the tracing paper. My search continues...
