If you want to buy the FOUR wheels that came off my car, we'll talk. I'm keeping the spare both as a spare (and hope I'll never need it) and to provide proper weight up front. I've driven with and without the spare up front and find that it does make a difference in handling the tight turns in the canyons and on the track.
So what rims are these? 16s on my '82 Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
You're lucky! My 82 came with metric rims that will only accept the Michelin TRX. I wonder if a previous owner installed OEM 16" rims, as I'm planning to do.
And then there's all the aftermarket wheels that haven't been sold for some time now... i.e. BBS RS, Borbet Type A, Epsilon, etc... These are just the ones I've owned, off the top of my head.
I will agree that there are far more 16" options and at a lower price point than staying with the 14" wheels and being required to pay a premium for the tires, however, I prefer the look of the 14" wheels with the larger tire. The handling probably isnt as good, however, the majority of the time I would never realize the benefits that the newer technology tires provide anyway. For me its all about the look and sound.
Offset = the distance between the wheel center and the mounting surface. Image Unavailable, Please Login
ok, so some replacement wheels requiring a 20 mm offset for example....means they require a piece (pre machined..) that goes between the wheel in question and the hub, bringing the wheel outward 20 mm? Is that corrcet? I assume this piece must have the same hole patterns, distances, etc? That's the reason sometimes longer bolts are needed? To reach into the hub, now sitting 20 mm further away from the outer surface of the wheel? Thanks Viper.////
So I haven't bought the 16" reproductions from superformance.uk yet. I was thinking I'd wait until after the first of the year. But a guy not far from me is advertising 16" wheels off a 328. Will these also fit?
You can buy the repos from vendors here in the US. I think GT Car Parts sells them for @$1400 set. With the current exchange rate, it may be less than going overseas.
Thanks, Doug! (That price IS better than superformance.) But I couldn't find GT Car Parts using Google. Do you have contact information?
the wheels don't require an offset, they have the offset. The car dictates the offset needed. As the diagram above shows, offset is how far the mounting face of the rim is pushed inward or outward from absolute center of the rim barrel. 0 offset would be the center of the rim barrel ----I---- + offset moves the center outward in the barrel -----I--- - offset moves the center inward in the barrel ---I----- low offset or negative offset have the real "deep dish" look When shopping for replacements, you need to get the correct bolt pattern first 5x108 Later model Ferrari wheels like the 355 and 360 have larger + offset so spacers are needed to push the wheel out. The 14" 308 wheel is @12mm offset if I recall. The 355 rim is @50mm I think. the offset difference is @ 38mm which is about 1.5". You would need a 1.5" spacer to push the rime outward to fit. Otherwise, it would probably not even go on because it would hit the inside wheel well. Your lug bolts would also need to be 1.5" longer to cover the spacer width for mounting. The same applies to any aftermarket rim.
You have 390mm rims? Never mind... I use the 14" x 7.5" wide versions, there were similar 14" x 6.5" also.....
Thanks for the contact info. I did some calculations last night, and with the dollar strengthening somewhat against the British pound, I find that Superformance is actually still the cheapest: $1141.36 for the wheels; 205.36 for shipping; TOTAL: 1347.18 Does anyone know about import taxes or tariffs? That would be the deal breaker!
I ordered the 16" reproduction rims from Superformance. I had them within five days. I also bought some Dunlop Direzza tires from Tire Rack and hand them mounted and installed on my car last Saturday. The improvement over the 390 mm rims is incredible. Also, with the dollar strengthening over the British Pound, the price was very reasonable. I was able to buy the wheels AND the tires for a lot less than the price of just the TRXs. And this provides many possibilities for tires. Next I think I'll try out those Toyos that so many people are raving about. If anyone expresses interest, I'll post a photo of my 308 GTB with its spectacular new rims. To anyone who still rides on 390s: I highly recommend these 16" reproduction rims for a vast improvement in ride, handling, and appearance - as well as huge savings and wider tire selection. I also recommend Superformance. They provide a quality product at a very good price. (And no, I'm not getting paid to say that. )
Thinking about doing the same. Please post photos, I'd love to see what the Superformance wheels look like on the car. Also, did the Ferrari wheel centers and lug bolts come with the wheels? Approx. how much $$ for shipping, customs, etc.? Thanks!
IF they are original wheels off a 328, they would be better than the repros...... Did you ever get your 14" ones off? I'm still a buyer for any 14" take offs!!
Center caps and lug bolts are not included, which I assume isn't a problem for most people as they simply use their old ones. Shipping was about $200, as I recall. This depends on the Pound to Dollar exchange rate at the time you purchase. I actually think it's pretty reasonable, considering the size and weight of the wheels, the distance they came, and the fact that I had them in less than a week. Even with shipping, the total is far less expensive than buying the same wheels from T. Rutlands or other suppliers here in the U.S. The customs charge was only $24. All that, and still cheaper than any other source of 16" wheels that I could find, and cheaper even than a new set of TRX tires alone. Probably you can find the bolts if you look at some websites or consult with other Ferrari owners. I also have some yellow center caps that I might let go for the right price. (Original but used.)
You have a PM... Ricambi has the new center caps and bolts by Hill Engineering. I have found used 'sets' of bolts....around $300 for all 20.
Hi, Alan! I got your PM, but I find that I'm unable to respond there. (It seems your inbox is full. ) Hope you don't mind my posting here, and for the benefit of others who were interested in my take-offs. Unfortunately, I just sold the wheels I took off yesterday. Sorry if you were interested in them. They were actually 390 mm, not 14", and I was under the impression that you were only interested in buying a set of 14" Campagnolos. If I was mistaken in thinking that, please accept my apologies. I would have contacted you first if I had thought that you were interested in 390 mm wheels as well. ~Bradley
Here are a couple photos. (By the way, I also have the "Titanium" center caps from Ricambi installed on them ) Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
