I have successfully replaced the bulbs in the tach with Sylvania 3893 bulbs and bypassed the rheostat in a quest for more voltage to my panel lights. I have two Sylvania 2723 bulbs for the speedo but how do you get at these bulbs? It's not obvious like the tach. In the attached pic are the items with the arrows where these bulbs reside? I cannot pull or pry these off.

Also, all four screws that hold the panel in were missing. Anyone know the part number or suitable replacement for these? They are not in my parts manual for the '85.

    Any help appreciated!

Just out of curiosity, were you able to replace the bulbs in the tach by going under the steering wheel or did you have to take out the dash/console...?
Like many, all my gauges are super dim. Just wondering what it takes to get back there....

    Whole procedure is here:

    http://www.nwrfca.org/faq/dashlights.html

It doesn't mention how to pull the speedo bulbs though!

Yep, you were right. I just had to pry them out with a screwdriver and that did the trick.

I went out and drove the car tonight and the panel is easily twice as bright as it was. With this mod and Birdman's fuse blocks, the car is almost modern now as far as lighting goes!

Rather than pry the warning lights out with a screwdriver as the FAQ suggests, you might want to use a tip from an earlier thread:

Wrap dental floss around the warning light & pull it out that way. No damage to the console.

It wasn't the 4 console warning lights that were the issue. The bulbs IN the speedo were the issue. Good tip though.
