First time doing this on '83 QV Euro, a few questions:

    1. How much better is the "uprated" water pump from Superformance than a standard replacement? See Cooling Parts for Ferrari 308, 208, 288 GTO & F40 - Superformance, the top two part listings.

    2. The water pumps available from Superformance say "complete", does this mean they come with the gaskets, o ring, bearing, etc.? Just want to make sure I order everything I need ahead of time.

    3. I'm ordering a new water pump pulley (part no. 121654), so I assume I'll need to re-use the old pulley bolt?

    4. Also going to replace the alternator, does the one from Superformance come with the pulley (doesn't show in the picture on their website) or do I have to reuse the old one? Does anyone know of a source to buy a new alternator pulley? Electrical Parts for Ferrari 308, 208, 288 GTO & F40 - Superformance

    Thanks!

I've had one of their standard pumps in my 328 for about 5 years. Its fine, its a water pump :). It seems to perform just as well as the OEM part for less than half the cost. I think the only thing needed was to swap the pulley over & I will have re-used the original bolt I think.

The replacement (non OEM) pump is a sealed unit, you can't dismantle it/rebuild it. If it breaks, you throw it away.

All you will need is the gasket and you should get a new O ring that seals the housing to the block (install with a smear of silicone grease).

No affiliation, but I've found Superperformance to be very responsive to email queries. Just send them an email with your questions and they will promptly reply, at least that has been my experience.

The day I bought my 308 - the DAY - I blew the wp.

I was 29 years old and had been dreaming of the moment I brought one home since I was 12. It was a serious buzzkill to literally pull into my driveway only to see steam blowing up from the back in my rearview mirror. I had to stare at it sitting there for a week.

Anyway I bought the "upgraded" wp from Rutlands, whatever that was then.

This was September 1997 and I still have that same pump. It has about 60,000 miles on it now so theirs is not a bad choice. I have proven that with a buttload of track time, city and highway driving during the past 17 years.

Either way I am going to go ahead and renew it next spring with new timing belts just for the hell of it but my point is Rutlands had a good product then. Give them a call.

Bought all the parts from Superformance. Do yourself a favor and buy 2 gaskets, 2 orings and 2 of everything else that costs less that $5. You will kick yourself after you accidentally tear a $2 gasket and have to wait for another.
I bought the standard WP and reused the pulley (cleaned and repainted), it was fine.
    I have a 308
