I am planning on replacing my OEM battery on my 05 F430 with a new battery. After reading several threads I have decided on a Odyssey PC925T.

In reading the instructions of installing a new battery it is recommended that you turn the battery disconnect switch to off and then disconnect the battery connections from the battery termincals. In doing this it then requires on first startup after installing the new battery that you must re-learn all the ECU parameters and re-initialize the radio with the radio code.

The question I had for other F-Chatters, has anyone connected a battery tender or charger to the system and used it to keep the system energized while switching the old battery for the new. Hence in theory, you would avoid having to re-learn the ECU parameters and re-initializing the radio.

I already know that you have to be careful, VERY CAREFUL in doing this and I would take the proper precautions such as taping the negative cable so that it does not ground while I am switching battery connections. But I am just wondering if anyone has every tried a hot swap of batteries for any model Ferrari that normally requires a complete re-learning process after installing a new battery.

Years ago my mechanic told me how to do something like that. I don't remember the details but something about plugging into the cig lighter outlet a battery charger set on trickle charge. It was suppose to give just enough charge to keep juice going to everything. How true it is I don't know but he was a damn good mechanic so i'd give it some credit.

I have not done it to my Ferrari , but have done it to my Viper. I simple attached the black electrode to cars black cable, then attached the red cable of tender to the positive battery cable while still attached to old battery, then removed cables from the old battery. Tender is supplying needed juice. Removed old battery, then reattach with ground first, then red positive and had no problems.
Like I said had no problem , but it wasn't the Ferrari!

you can buy a simple device that plugs into the cigarette lighter and uses a 9V battery. 9V is enough to retain memory in all of the computers.

That's right. I was thinking about this today and this is what I was told, not what I said above.

The problem with this is that the lighter is energized only when the key is on. I would recommend connecting a jumper battery to the connections behind the drivers seat.

Can you post a product name/description for this? Took a quick look on ebay, but didn't know how to describe it enough to pull up anything relevant.
