Does anyone know of a specific system/kit (other than Motronic) that can be purchased to do an EFI conversion on an '88 TR with a stock CIS Fuel Mgmnt system. If so, is there anyone in particular that would be recommended for such an install?

Obv'ly (with EFI) there would be a noticeable increase in HP (similar to those of the later model 512TR's and 512M's BUT (realistically) could this car's gear box and rear end handle any real additional increases in BHP?

Anyone care to guess what (approx.) this type of conversion might cost?

Know of anyone who has attempted it?

    thanx,

    aw

There are 3 brands that I know of.
Motec M800 or M880- the best probably, but also the most expensive. I'm in my QV now. They are MUCH cheaper if you find a source in Australia to order from, that is what I did. The software isn't all that freindly to set-up and their flying lead harness in missing most of the wires...I'm actually thinking I'm going to order a replacement Haltech E11 harness because it comes with enough different color wires to connect all the pins. From Oz,plan on $3500 for ECU with the options you need and there are another $1000-$3000 in options you'll find your self wanting. With the basic set-up it will run multipoint injection and fire your distributor. With all the expansion options it will run sequentail injection and coil-on-plug ignition.

Haltech E11 - Very similar to the motec, they have the same processor I'm told. They are under $2000 with the flying lead harness (there is a shop selling them on ebay for $1550). There realy aren't any added cost options you'd want, except LSU wide band O2 maybe for $300 including the sensor (It's $75 for the Motec and doesn't include the sensor). Much easier to set-up than the Motec, the manual is very clear and the wiring harness is complete. The down side is that it is not as flexible, you must use the sensors they specify (and will supply). It has 14 outputs for fuel and ingintion, with a max or 6 for ignition. So you can have sequentail fuel with the distributors or you can pair, batch or multiport the injectors and run waste spark ingnition.

Haltech E6x - less channels than the E11. It will run the engien well, but your only set-up option is twin distributor and multiport injection. I ran the earlier version the E6k on my QV without any problems. It costs about $1400 with the harness.

Electromotiv. I have never messed with one of these, but sever 308 onwers on f-chat have them and seem happy. They are all waste spark ignition, but I can give you more info than that, maybe someone else will chime in who can give more detail. The cost is about $2500 I think, but am not sure.

All these systems require sensors, injectors, fuel regulator. Bugdet at least $1000 and it could be more depending or how you set-up you intake and how many frills you add.

There are a lot more options if you want to consider buying 2 6 cylinder ECUs, but that's probably not the best way to go and I don't think you'll save any money...unless you go with a pair of MegaSquirt II units which are about $400 each.

Anyone know if the injector bung on these is the same as the 2V or 4V 308 motor?

on 4v 308 & 328 motors the injector bungs need to be machined down 1/2" and new bungs installed. This is to get the injector close to the air stream. If not, only 50% of your spray of fuel gets into the airstream and the rest hits the walls and drips down into the intake.

The electromotive system is OK, I have used it on 308's and 328's but when I finish my V-12, I will use a Motec--much better unit.

FAST also makes a good system and AEM makes a good one too.

NONE of them are just a simple replacement, They will all require quite a bit of machine work and fitting.

Motec m880 is the best option for your application, it will take a skilled shop to install it.

They are b*stards on the pricing though...everything is an extra charge option.

I used a FAST year ago and it was pretty nice, but I didn't realized either where 12 cylinder capable.

Do you think the mil spec connector is required on a street car?
