I'm going to replace both cooling fan motors and blades on my 246, in the grand scheme of things it'll be easier and safer than trying to repair them.

However from searching on here I've found that there has been a discussion on using the Lucas fans from an MG B V8. Is this correct?????

I also run an MGB and am used to having Lucas stuff (although mine has a Kenlow fan) but I just want the correct part number or equivilent if possible before ordering and fitting the one I think is correct.

    Can anybody advise please?

    Phil

    Phil.

It's a Lucas part, I think I matched it to a Jag fan too.

I'll pull mine out of the box this AM and get all the numbers for you.

although, any good motor shop can probably rebuild them for you.

Moss Motors is a good source for these, along with a couple other Brit car supply houses.

Are you fixated on making sure the part is original? Superformance sells a set of fans for reasonable money that have four blade plastic fans (Like the 308 uses, I'm told) that worked great on my car. Significantly improves airflow, and the plastic blades reduce wear on the motors. Fit right in like the originals.

I'll be back later this morning with more info on the lucas part #.

If the same as 308, it's a Jag XKE v12 unit.

I replaced one recently, it's in the parts thread in 308 section.....$142.

I had it as a Lucas #78497, and updated with a C34368 @ WorldPAC Parts.
It was identical in every way to the original...had to spray it with splatter paint to match the older one.....;)

Even the 1977 Boxer at FoH had the same fans....three of them, though.

Early Dinos had Lucas "tombstone" fans and then the later cars went to the round ones. Dennis McCann had both last time I checked (about 2 years ago).

    Cheers...Keith

Sure enough the Jag shop wanted $250, so I went to some padners in the Mercedes/BMW/Audi/Porsche shop, to order it........

They take pity on Ferrrari owners, and past it thru at cost......to get me going again.

    *big hug*

i have three of the fans in my parts pile. 2 i think are good, one i think is for parts. if you have not found what you are looking for i will sell all 3 for $250.00 + shipping.

where in the south are you ?

i will also add that you can use the later QV fan blades for better cooling on the early fans. :)

XK'S Unlimited has the reintroduced 78497 motors which are slightly different from the original as the butt of the motor housing is a separate piece. They list them for $111 and have the mounting bracket as well. I bought one to check it out and though not correct for a concours car I was pleased with it. They have a pic on their site. Sorry, we were giving USA sources, Lucas should litter the wrecking yards there....plentiful as pecans!

Those were good numbers though, for me.....
