    Hi All,

Greetings from the 550 forum. Looks like our cars share the same door lock mechanisms, so I thought I'd run this one by you guys.

Does anyone by chance know how to swap lock cylinders in the door lock mechanism? I'm thinking that circlip on the back has to come off, but then I have to deal with that spring and anything else that comes out with it. Thought I'd check with you guys before I resort to that incase there's some trick to getting the key in a certain position to pull that cylinder out.

    Thanks!

Well, I finally figured this out. In the unlikely case someone else ever needs to do this, the answer is you have to remove that clip and pull the unit apart.

Pinch the unit together while you remove the circlip. I was then able to slowly work the rear of the unit out keeping the spring together against the backing and inner cylinder. Once out, I lightly clamped them with vice grips to hold the spring in place.

There is a second inner clip that holds the lock cylinder in place. Remove that.

At that point the lock cylinder itself will slide out.

Reverse the process to reassemble, then spend a few hours contemplating why you freely choose to own old Italian cars and maintain them yourself ;)
