I'm sending out 5 soundstream class A amps out to be refurbished and upgraded. These power the front stage and TWELVE 12" subwoofers. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Ah, 1996. Much simpler times before the internet was prevalent and before smart phones. Damn, I was already married and practicing law in ‘96. (Can’t remember if I had Probe GT or the Mitsubishi Eclipse GST that year. The Eclipse Had a larger turbo and huge air intake. You could hear that turbo sucking in air and the blow off would scare the crap out of people).
I must be one of the old ones here… the cool kid down my street put in a Clarion stereo with 6x9’s with a amp eq in his ‘74 Trans Am which was only 4 or 5yrs old at the time and we thought he was cool and rich! I drove my dads ‘71 Ford pickup truck until I got grounded the summer going into my senior year for drag racing behind Chesterfield Mall
In the early eighties I had a 911 SC this is what I did to it. Laughable now but it sure was cool back then and a lot of people thought so as well. Image Unavailable, Please Login
You are not alone. I remember my first car in the mid 80s upgrading to a cassette player and I was living large. I also had 6x9 speaker upgrades and a bazakoo bass tube. Funny in that mid 50s I now hear a car with loud music and get annoyed. I’m a few years away from yelling at kids to get off my lawn.
Did someone say audio control? This thing was really setup right back in the day. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login

Ha! This has come such a long way - all that power today can now fit into something about the same size as an one the smaller ones in the pic.
My choice would be to switch everything over to old school rockford fosgate and alpine, but it would be too hard to track that stuff down. Twelve 12" punch subwoofers would be badass though. I still might switch over to og alpine if I run into problems with the supplied eclipse dsp. I know nothing about this system and zero documentation for it.
That dystopian triangular woofer tunnel is wild! I’m an audio nut, but direct my obsession at home system mostly. with car stuff I’ve tried to stick to oem form factors, mounting locations, just upgrade drivers and front end where relatively easy. the 488 system is just adequate, but I’ve been so focused on getting it to handle/sound like a real sports car that I’ve deferred the audio stuff. in wife’s cayenne gts coupe, we have the Burmester with the folded ribbon (really amt) tweeters, it’s the best factory set up I’ve heard personally. When we take both cars, I look around for a civic with a trunk full of kickers, and I end up finding her blasting Brazilian funk
Ha! I always have to have some sounds in my cars. I just love music and it goes hand in hand with driving. I had a 1987 Jimmy in High School. It had 4 18" subwoofers that were also mounted in a triangle so this new truck got me nostalgic for sure. This thing is pure nostalgia for me. Bring back great memories of my childhood and that's all its about.
I've spend days going through and rewiring this truck and then today I opened the back to see what was behind the panels. Good lord. Gonna need to replace all this too. Amps will take 3-4 months to be rebuilt so I have time. I'll he reupolstering it all myself in old school tweed. Got the back reupholstered. Just need to do the tailgate. I found some matching velour that matches the interior and went with that. Need to finish polishing the amplifier rack and rebuild the amplifier wiring harness still.
