I put some after market fronts on the car is now dangerous.

Its so soft it bounces up down over bumps. Thinking of putting the stock ones back on.

Can anyone recommend an after market brand that works good? Prefer stiff as stock or slightly more.

They are $5k from the dealer so prefer not to spend that much.

What brand did you put on? Only replaced the front shocks? What car/year do you have?

Curious as to the brand as well and how you came to the decision to just replace the fronts. Did you also replace the springs?

KW seems to be the most popular I would say.

    2003 360 spider,

changed the shocks since I was chasing a metal rattle, it turned out it was a ball joint, and the shock was NOT the cause of the noise so I can put the old ones back on but I am blown away by how poor the performance of the after market shock is. I will find out the brand and get back to you.

in the mean time does anyone have any good experiences/brands they can share?

Well, if you can't remember the brand, chances are they're not worth having. Cheap replacement shocks usually ride like garbage.

    I'd look into KW's.

If you're only changing fronts, just put the stock ones back in. Change them all or don't.

I'd put the stock ones in, especially since you figured out it was the ball joint producing the noise. If you are looking to lower the car, use the stock setup. Or get stainless scud springs, should be about a 15mm drop which is perfect in my opinion. Going lower, more travel, more potential bottoming out.

There was some Chinese shocks made specifically for our cars on ebay, I think they were around 1200 for all 4. I've never used them but heard good reviews.

I've also heard the stock ones can be rebuilt. That may be an option

Not quite sure why everyone is against Ferrari shocks. They, in my experience, are indestructible. Generally, problems or warnings generated by the suspension ECUs originate from somewhere else, and replacing the shocks simply deletes the link to the problem areas. For example, I've diagnosed and repaired many issues with skyhook warnings that 100% of the time were traced back to sensors or ABS, etc., that simply generated a "catch all" warning. Skyhook on the 599 is insane good and gives the car very tight and predictable handling. I've never ever had to replace one. Same with my Maserati QP - 20 year old Skyhook with 135K miles and all is good and tight.

Once someone came to me with a car in F1 limp mode (which makes it act erratically and limits you to second gear), trans warning, suspension warning, ABS warning. Turns out it was just 2 bad ABS solenoid sensors. If one solenoid sensor goes bad on a F1, you get a light and you lose your 5 second brake hold when in gear - not a big deal. Then when the second goes, your suspension defaults to firm and your NCR goes into "recovery mode." It was a 10 minute fix. I replaced the sensor portion of the ABS pump block ($200 from eBay), and everything was fixed. No need to spend $6,800 from the dealer.

As for the 360, I love my stock system, even after 85K miles. Aside from a vertical speed indicator at $40, it has been trouble free. Recently someone here locally "upgraded" his to an aftermarket system and sold their low-mileage set of 4 OEM shocks for $400.00. SMH.

On the Astons, the shocks blow out all the time. I had two blow out on my DB9. When it blows, it dumps fluid everywhere and will make the car bounce like a '63 Buick lol.

On the 360, you'll need to watch the front fenders too. Turning on an incline will turn that fender into tin foil. I see many YouTubers with 360s raving about their new coil overs then I closely look at the fenders in the right angle and they are clearly destroyed lol. That's the part they don't show on camera!

Might not be the right thread, but since you posted up your experience with skyhook, figured I'd ask here. I notice very little difference between the different settings on the manettino. Others have states it's a very obvious difference. I have no error codes. I just assumed it was a marginal difference. Is everyone else in the same boat or are they really feeling night and day differences between the settings?
