replacing fuel accumulator

preparing to replace the accumulator. (warm start problem)
mine has a hose from the vent pipe to the gas tank
my question is how much, if any, gas will come out of the system when the hoses and pipes are removed.
should i have plugs and pans at the ready or are just a few rags sufficent.

 

You should consider taking the whole contraption (pump and acc) off the car to do this. If you dont then you will probably end up with gas leaks. I saw someone else mention this on another thread after I had done mine. And I wish I had seen that before.

This means all the gas will come out of the tanks if not plugged.

You can change out just the accumulator just by itself with no issues. I did mine this last summer and it has yet to leak.

 

Back to the point of the OP, how much fluid can one expect to come out? I'm going to be changeling the accumulator (and ONLY the accumulator) next weekend and would be interested in the answer myself.

 

I changed my QV a few years ago. Maybe 1/2 a cup came out.
I don't recall if I had to pinch off the rubber lines or not. I should have a thread in the archives.

 

the best way i found is to remove the three small nuts holding the fuel pump/accumulator mounting plate to the frame.
then disconnect the small wire from the fuel pump.
this allows you to swing the entire assembly aft into the wheel well so it is not necessary to drain any fuel as the fule pump holds the gas back.
as stated elsewhere don't mess up the steel line between the pump and the accumulator.
i twisted mine, i don't know my own strength, and have played hell trying to replace it.
