So instead of paying a ridiculous amount for 1 or 2 stepper motors, I found a killer deal on a complete cluster, and if I could just plug and play rather than taking 2 clusters apart to replace the stepper motors, that would be even better. Problem is, my car has 50k+ on it and the new cluster has less than 30. Don't want to show a mileage discrepancy, so would a dealer be able and willing to adjust mileage UP?

Yes, I did search. Don't like the new search...too many hoops to jump through

You could probably take the cluster to an instrument specialist and they could do if for you. Otherwise, you might have to get an electronics whiz to build a square wave generator which you can hook up to your speedo. Unfortunately, I think you'd have to limit the output frequency of the generator so that your speedo doesn't hit the end stop while the odometer is clicking over. This in turn will limit the speed at which your odometer will click over. Even at 200mph, your odometer would take 100 hours to add 20,000miles (and you'd have to keep a very careful eye on it to make sure you didn't go too far).

FAI in Costa Mesa can do it for you. They did it for a new cluster I had installed. Easy search.

Oh wow, I was electronics tech in a past life, so this would be no big deal. Guess I didn't realize it was so simple, since everything else electrical on this car is a pain, I figured that would be too. Thanks! Sounds like I will either have to send it out or build this, guess I just need to assess if it might not be less painful just to swap out the stepper motor..

No way to use that on a 360 cluster. Speed and mileage data are provided by the ABS ECU to the cluster through the CAN bus.

Though, it is pretty easy to change the mileage by writting it directly in the EEPROM ...

Sorry, I didn't realise how advanced these cars are. I assume you could plug a signal generator into the speed sensor cable on the gearbox, but you would have to leave your ignition on for a long time.

On the earlier F355 only the tachometer signal goes through the ECU.

Would the EPROM chip have to be removed from the board?

It can be done in situ with the EEPROM chip on the board.

For the OP, an easy solution could be to copy the content of the EEPROM from the old cluster to the one of the new cluster, or to even easier to swap the EEPROMs ...

If it's socketed, absolutely the easiest way. Supposed to be arriving today, haven't opened any up yet

Not socketed ! The EEPROM is soldered on the PCB.
Not too difficult, it has a 8 pins SMD package.

Not bad, depending on the quality of the PCB itself. I had to change motors in a Chevy Silverado clusters and was lifting traces and lands with hardly any heat it was so bad. Hopefully this is a bit better. Cluster arrived today so will be testing soon.

Never had a problem with the PCB.
