    You can use a thin wall reinforced silicone hose. The thin hose is easier to shoe-horn between the pump and the cranck-case.

    Some others here have also shortent the alloy outlet port of the pump so has to gain more clearance.

    I think shortening the spigot is counterproductive. You just have to get a longer hose in place so it can cross a longer span. I have never personally done it but I know many that have installed a new hose with no modifications.
