Do any of you know how to remove and replace the "Slow Down" lights located under the steering wheel on early 308's? The only thing which does not work on my 78 308 GTS is the Slow Down 5-8 light and I would like to fix it. Does the entire assemly come out, or do you replace the bulb from under the dash. I attempted to reach under the dash but decided I'd ask first prior to messing with any wires.

Are you saying that you have determined that the bulb itself is the problem and not the corresponding ECU?

Correct. My converters were hollowed out long ago, but the lights still flash when the car is started. I want to replace the 5-8 light which is no longer flashing.

I can't agree that that change in behavior is conclusive -- if the 5/8 ecu is dead, and the 5/8 bulb were OK, you'd get the same symptom (i.e., no flash of the 5/8 bulb during the self-test at start-up).

I can't recall how those warning lights assemblies are held into the dash, but I do recall pulling mine out to detail around them so it can't be that tricky/difficult -- or I'd have a much clearer memory ;). However, since those bulbs are hardly ever "on", I have to say that a bad bulb is the more unlikely scenario (but anything's possible).

Sorry I can't be more specfic about which is easier to do, but you really need to either swap the bulbs or swap the ecus (under the passenger footrest panel) to conclude who is the bad player -- good hunting!
