Everyone, I'm posting this for future reference if anyone needs to replace their 9 pin and 24 pin round connectors near the ecu's. I know others have done it before but I'm posting pictures here.

Step 1 order the connectors. I got them off of digikey.com

    A122390-ND 24 pin round connector $8.43

    A99536-ND 9 pin round connector $6.22.

    Depinning tool from amazon:
Jonard R-5926 Pin Extractor, 16-20 Contact Size, 3" Length

    $10 https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B006962LBU?psc=1&ref=yo_pop_mb_pd_title

Once you have all that it comes down to Prepping to de-pin.

    1. Unscrew the back of the connectors before disconnecting from the car. This will get you access to the wires.

    2. Slide back the sheath as much as it can go.

    3. Start with the 9 pin connector for practice.

    4. Start with pin 1, insert the tool, wiggle it around to ensure that it is all the way seated, then push the plunger. The wire should have popped out the back of the connector.

    5. Place the wire into the #1 spot on the new connector. For the 9 pin you can immediately attach the wires to the new connector.

    6. Repeat for the remaining pins. Be sure to tug on the wires once they are inserted to confirm that they are locked in place. Once done screw the backing back on and connect to the car.

Once you have mastered the art of de-pinning the 9 pin connector, it's time to move on to the 24 pin connector.

    7. Repeat the steps learned on the 9 pin. But you cannot directly connect the wires to the new plug.

Note: it may be useful to pull back the outer conduit at the Y in the wiring harness. This will ease disassembly and installation.

    8. De pin the connector, mark each pin with tape and the hole number. Be sure to write down or note the pin location and wire color if you lose the tape markings.

    9. De-pin the remaining pins locations and Mark.

    10. Once de-pinning slowly start populating the new connector starting in reverse.

    11. Positions 23 and 24 will be unused.

    12. Using needle nose pliers can assist you in connecting the wires.

    13. Once done tighten the connector backing, reassemble the conduit and attach to the car. If everything went well the car should run fine.

If it doesn't, then recheck your notes on colors and wires positions.

I hope this helps some people, I was unsure of the de-pinning tool when I was looking at the project. Luckily I found the correct one cheap on the second try. Total cost for the project was around $25. In case anyone is lost by this, the two connectors are here attached to the black box under the right fender.

Also wire colors may change based off of market, use it as a reference only. You perform this project at your own risk. Image Unavailable, Please Login
