Feeling the itch for something different, and looking to explore a new car/experience after life with the Ferrari F430

Was hoping for some feedback from FChat given I have been here for ages now. Originally I was on the lookout for a 2012 Aventador, but with a max budget of 320, I dont see anything my price range. For some ODD reason they seem to be selling close to their original MSRP of 450.

My Criteria: I am probably missing a few, but this is what I look for
    1) Driving Experience
    2) Road Presence
    3) Value Retention
    4) Character and Personality
    5) Unique (YouTube perspective)

    --------------------------------------------------
    Options:
    1) McLaren 650 - 320K. It is certainly a great car, prone to electronic issues but for me the biggest issue is price. I certainly dont think its 100K better than the 12c and has the same degree of road presence

    2) Lamborghini Huracan Great performance, great road presence, new and unique. This seems to be well valued and definitely a great package. For example, 458s are MORE expensive than the Huracan.

    3) McLaren 12c - 220-240. Good price point, but the issue is I am uncertain with how this will act in the market. With cars like 570 and 540 it is hard to predict. The styling looks dated, and I dont think has any greater road presence than my F430.

    4) Ferrari 458 280-350. Too old in my opinion, way overdone and I think it has lost is appeal to me. I prefer the F430 over a 458. Sorry

    5) Aston Vantage V12 - I think a 3 pedal manual will certainly go up in value and I love astons. But I just dont think it has the same road presence or up to par performance wise as the other options.

    Care to opine?

Based on what you wrote, you have the highest affinity for the Huracan. Seems you already know what you want :)

Best wishes on your next ride!

I'd love to hear some details on your 430 that you're looking to sell. Might be interested....

CS, Scud, or 16M would be a much better match for your criteria than anything you've mentioned.

agree with that .. However a friend of mine has a 458 and hurican .. He likes them both but in the end the Lambo is the one he drives the most.. The ferrari has a better fit and finish..

The Huracan is an awesome machine (I own a Verde Mantis) but forget about value retention. This is the mass produced Lambo. Expect to get real good deals on used ones and to take a big hit on a new one when you want to sell.
Older Aventadors are trading below 400k, the only ones over 400k are newer ones and the SV.

The Canadian market is badly priced, esp with the rare editions. For example a Scud is going for over 300k and has been on the market for over 1.5 months.

What do you think Scud's are going for in the State's ?.
Even if you got a scud for 185k USD in the states ,it would cost you well over 300k CDN
after exchange duty's and tax's.So 300k cdn is not as bad as it sounds. Do the math.

From what I've seen, none of the cars you mentioned really have good value retention. I guess it depends exactly for how long you want to keep it but they're all going to depreciate. The Aston V12 manual might be better but it doesn't have some of the other criteria you're looking for.

I agree that a Scuderia or 16m is a better option. Or have you considered a 6 speed Murcielago?

You seemed to discount the 12C and mentioned the 570S, but is there any reason the McLaren 570S itself isn't under consideration?

    All the best,
    Andrew.

The only Lambo I like is the Aventador. It's too pricey for me as well.

650S felt too cramped inside compared to 430 and 458. I love the look though.

Too bad you've lost your love for the 458, I absolutely love ours. But we just got it.

I did, but the price it is at in Canada is

    12 C Spyder < 458 < Huracan.

Both the 12c and 458 just dont get me that excited.

McLaren 570S may well be the best looking McLaren right now and designed to be more comfortable and even more connected to the road. Priced right too.

How about a Lambo Mercielago LP-640? (The SV versions are probably now too expensive). Some are even available with MT.

In terms of the new Huracan, they just released a 2-wheel drive only version and we know a Supperleggra is sure to follow soon.

Not on your list, but I thought I'd mention it; twin turbo Gallardo. The Gallardo's have great road presence, pulls a crowd wherever you go. They have mind numbing performance (3x your F430 HP at the wheels on a stage 3) and have an unbelievable exhaust note.

I owned a stage 1 TTG in orange and it was an amazing car. I shall return to once again in the future. Hopefully I can add one to my 430, but if not the F car goes down the road. want to know how to make a Ferrari disappear? Park it next to a Lambo. :)

McLaren 570s = Sports Car vs. Mclaren 12c= Supercar. Sure it looks great but technically inferior to the 12c. I did consider the 570s but waiting to see until its released to see how it impacts the price of the 12c. I nearly closed on the 2013 spyder but it just didnt get me excited.

I dont think the 640 is really a drivers car, I just feel its more for show then performance.

I am sure the Huracan prices will start dropping really soon. Esp when 2016s, spiders and 2-wheel drives will hit the road.

    Analysis paralysis? :D

Absolutely, but in Canada the F12 is around 100k MORE than the Aventador and to be honest I rather the Aventador. All the F12s on sale have been posted for over 6 weeks (Source: Autotrader)

EVO named the LP670 as one of the true drivers cars. The LP640 isn't that much ''less'' of a car, under the skin it's almost completely identical to the 670. I think I'm right in saying that even the suspension setup is identical between the two...

For that reason, I'd test drive a 640 if I where you. And once you're satisfied, buy a manual! :)

I'd say Murcielago. Great road presence, unique, and I'd bet a rear engined, manual V12 will appreciate in the future. Might be more show than go, but you'll only know that for sure by test driving one.

Yep - that is what I was trying to convey.

The SV versions of the Mercielago are going for insane money right now - thanks prospectors. :( There are LP 640 with body kits that look nearly identical for less than half that. For even less, the original Mercielagos (many with MT) can be had.

These were probably the last of the "bonkers" Lambos, that looked cool and were still inclined to bite your head off. :)

You need to drive a DCT car to really see if you like the experience...it's very different then the single clutch F1 systems in terms of 'feel' and far more clinical/sterile. Some people who came from the older F1 system don't like it.

(Personally I love DCT transmissions; I wish I could run one with an aftermarket controller in my older BMW!)
