I didn't want to read through all the pages, but if no-one has said this let me. Figure on throwing the watch out when it breaks, because watchmakers won't try and fix a replica watch-no parts available usually.
Depends on the watch. Some of them come with regular Swiss ETA movements (e.g., 2836)- those can be fixed by just about anyone. And if that fails, there's a whole underground of replica watchsmiths (they look just like real watchsmiths, but they're cheaper Gio P
I can buy a new replica if that happens since I can purchase 130.7 replacement watches for the price of one of the real deal Zeniths. And reps can be repaired pretty much at any watch repair...your information is wrong about part supply. beev
I don't understand someone who wants to spend $10,000, but look like they spent $100 Nice reps look as good and keep better time...functional wrist art on a dime. beev
Slightly off topic...some here are saying the quality of these watches is very good. Does anyone know who the manufacturers are? Would they be able to make a one-off self-designed watch at a decent price? I rather have something I designed, but not pay ridiculous amounts for it. Thanks.
Like a replica car, why buy a real Ferrari when you can get a kit? Who needs a real Lamborghini with a snorting V12? They are more finnicky, require more maintenance and cost way too much. But we still admire and desire them...the real deal. Replicas are often ridiculed for being fake and being a copy of the original....the nasty replica cars on eBay are thrown through the ringer here. It's not about what you see, it's about what you don't see that makes a watch.
This true if it has it's own label or brand. If it says Rolex and has an ETA movement it is not art. It is a forgery and just wrong.
I disagree with the Mona Lisa comparison. Everyone knows there is only one Mona Lisa. Nobody that has a poster tries to pass it off as original. The issue with fake watches is that they are intended to deceive. Even if you tell everyone it is fake, it does not change the fact that it was manufactured with the intent to capitalize on someone else's design.
True nobody tries to pass off the Mona Lisa poster as the original. A fake is a fake, what one does with it is their choice but the intent of these replicas are obvious.
I don't know any reputable watchmakers who will repair replica watches. My information isn't wrong about parts supply. It's hard enough to get parts as it is for the majority of watchmakers who don't have parts accounts with major firms. All of the major brands (Rolex, LVMH/Richemont/Swatch brands) have stringent requirements to establish a parts account-you need a proper shop, proper equipment, and generally need certification from the AWCI. (This is in the USA).
Finally found a reason to wear a fake. My friend gave me a fake Submariner, a watch I was seriously considering buying from an AD. Wore it a few times and realized I don't want another watch with a metal band. Saved myself a few thousand $$ with the fake.
I actually haven't gone through that site for A LONG time now. But a friend told me they are now starting to sell many other things, including phones and handbags etc.etc. I will check it out again as I want to buy a Rolex from there. The Wife wants me to get a real one for our 10th anniversary in a couple of years time, but I told her I better buy a fake one first to see if I actually would enjoy wearing it. Of the 3 replica's I have bought from there, I would only probably ever buy one and that's a Panerai. The longer I live with these (over 12 months now I think) the longer I realise I am glad I didn't blow MEGA amounts of dollars on a watch that I wouldn't really wear. I will try a Rolex from there soon *but I already have a feeling they are just too small for my wrist and wouldn't enjoy wearing it over time** which is why I would rather spend $200 than $20,000 to find out.
i had a look at the site for the first time - the watches can never give the same feeling as the real thing. and its a matter of feeling and pride to own and wear luxury items. by the way - why can they offer these fakes? isnt it criminal? that would be absolutely impossible in europe!
