It was hot but there were a lot of great cars there and 5 previous world champion legends on hand. Bobby Langley, two time top fuel world champion, Raymond Beadle with the Blue Max, Mike Burkhart nostalgia Camaro funny car, Mexican Revolution nostalgia funny car, the Texas Blown Nitro Association with its collection of blown fuel cars. Lots of fuel altereds and junior fuel dragsters. Jerry McJabe had two jet cars on hand including a brand new '41 Willys body over a T37 jet engine that made its maiden run here. 230 mph on maiden run on an 1/8 mile track.

J.J. and I saw Bobby Langley and Ruth, his wife, standing beside Scorpion 1 in the staging lanes as we arrived. I had not spoken to Bobby in 40 years but I walked over to introduce J.J. to him and he put out his hand and said, "It is great to see you again" Blew me away that he would recognize me after all these years. We talked for about 10 until the "Parade of Legends" started and he had to join in. We went back to his rig after the parade and spent the better part of an hour reminiscing about the old days. Bobby was AHRA top fuel world champion in 1964 and 1966. He quit driving about 1971 when his son Jack turned 16 and Bobby did not want him to follow in his footsteps. Jack was there last night and backed up the story.

J.J. and I met the present owner of Scorpion V, Bill Crosby. Bill had Scorpion V parked near Scorpion 1 and fired it up for the cacklefest. The car still sounds as good as it ever did.

Beadle brought out the Blue Max against Mike Burkharts nostalgia Camaro funny car. Burkhart took the match 4.1007 to 4.417. The Mexican Revolution nostalgia Camaro, with its 5000hp supercharged fuel big block lost control off the line and crossed the center line and damaged something. Did not run again.

Vance Hunt and Dale Emory were on hand also. For those who do not remember them, they were pioneers in the early days of drag racing and forces to be feared at any meet they appeared. Their cars put many national champions on the trailer in their day.

Gene Snow had his A/FD out and ran a 4.08 with it. It is amazing how the old technology really shows up when on of the new cars comes out. The best time of the evening was put down by a modern Pro Mod running a 2500hp engine on racing gasoline, not nitro. It ran a 3.89. A door slammer beat all the nitro burners..........

I took some phone pictures but I need to get them transferred. I took the freedom to look p some Youtube videos of some of the cars that were there last night. You missed a night of excitement.
