http://tsn.ca/auto_racing/news_story.asp?ID=167987&hubName=auto_racing I would be willing to bet that the Williams cars will outperform the Toyota factory cars.
I guess it might look like Midland will be the old Jordan-Ford again if they sign with Cosworth. I wouldn't be surprised if Williams finishes better than Toyota.
I remember last year there were rumors of Midland going with Mercedes engines - probably same reason - Toyota going with Williams. I thought of a new commercial for Toyota - "Our chassis sucks, but at least our engine wins the races"
LOL.............I wonder if they'll have the exact same spec engines as the factory team. It will be very embarassing for Toyota if Williams outdoes them.
That's a good point. Frank Williams would not settle for anything less than the latest engine specs. Otherwise why switch from Cosworth. Having said that I don't really understand what's the rationale for Toyota getting into this deal. If both have the same engine chances are Toyota will be outperformed.
Personally it probably wouldnt be too much more embarrasing, I would imagine Williams would have a better aero package and chassis anyway.
Toyota should just scrap the factory only team and partner with williams. They make good engines and williams has good racing experience.
Hardly a positive attitude thing to do ... some try harder when the going gets tough . Williams, while previously having great racing experience, are not looking as good as they should this year thanks to reliability issues ... and it is not just the Cosworth engine that is causing all the problems. Apparently too the Williams is not very good aerodynamically (I'm quoting Webber from interview with Aussie press at Silverstone), hence the very poor effort at Silverstone ... but good mechanically, hence the good run at Monaco. Smacks of Ferrari in the mid-90's. While I can understand Williams going to Toyota and a probably financially better deal, they really need to pull their socks up before they become another Arrows (although unlike Arrows they were successful once). I just hope Webber does not stick with the team too long ... I'd jump ship now myself. There is a good car in there somewhere, but his career has a finite length! ... Pete
Frank Williams & Patrick Head have the gift of falling out with people/companies. Rosberg, Piquet, Mansell, Prost & Hill won world championship with them, before being sacked! Most of the time FW made such financial offers that it was insulting. Mansell was actually offered a pay cut after he won the World Championship!! Same with engine manufacturers: Honda ditched them because of their arrogance and switched to work with McLaren instead. BMW tried for 7 years I believe to build up a relationship, until they bought Sauber after Williams blamed them for lack of success. Without engine, they were rescued at the last minute by Cosworth ( a firm owned by Americans I am told) only to dump them after a year to go to bed with Toyota. Toyota hasn't exactly set the world of F1 alight, have they? I can't see the future being rosy at Williams. Weber and Nico Rosberg deserve better than that.
Nico Rosberg is still an unknown quantity. The speed is there, but let's see if he can translate that in good results if and when he get a good car. Mark Webber is not in the same league as M. Schumaker, Alonso or Raikinen for sure. More of a decent 'journeyman' in the mould of Jack Brabham or Denny Hulme.
I think when you spend over a billion dollars on a team in 2 years and still do not see results it's time to admit you need help. =)
