A year ago I tried to arrange a birthday ride for my son's 10th birthday - and despite the generosity of the board we were never able to arrange the logistics.

Here we are a year later...

...and on a long weekend vacation at the Don Cesar in St Petersberg, Fla.

Between the Tampa airport and the hotel we saw a red diablo spyder and a green Murci.

This got me thinking. Perhaps there is a board member in the area?

The request is simple: a quick 10 min scoot, you drive your car (it's about the boy)

The kid is Lamborghini crazy and would love everyminute of it.

We can come to you, meet at place, etc

    Thank you in advance.

    Dear Lamborghinisti,

I'm in Lakeland...about 45 minutes away from the Tampa airport. If you want to make it my way, I can give him a ride in my Ferrari.

Unfortunately, I'm in the middle of a tune up on the Lamborghini so, it's out of commission. But, just ask for the future....there's nothing like winding up through the gears with a Quicksilver exhaust system and the top off :D

He would love that as well.

Could we do it this afternoon? We could probably meet 2pm at the earliest.

    Please sms time/address, and we'll make a boy's day!

    Bravo.... Shamile

I did that once for a 15 years old girl who love to ride in one these supercars. She came to where we had our sunday coffee with her brother. I gave her a ride in my Testarossa... She enjoyed it and showed much appreciation.... that's about 3 years ago....

Sorry for the delay in posting the update....

First of all Shamile is the perfect example of an enthusiast gentleman. Kind to strangers, generous to children (and a bit of a cad after dark!).

We made the arrangements via PM's and SMS and a Call on Saturday afternoon. I grabbed by son Max and Boom! we were on the road.

We arrived at Shamile's place, and quite honestly it was the coolest juxtaposition of the calm middle class neighborhood (cut grass, people walking their dogs, toyotas, a guy washing his truck)

...and a garage with a Diablo and a Testarossa (see photo "choices")

Max is a pretty quite kid and as we drove up he hissed "uuuunnnnnreallllllll"

We hopped out and Shamile was under the Diablo working on something complicated and hydraulic and he welcomed us with the biggest, 'big kid smile'. It was great.

We talked about the cars, he showed us some of the stuff he's doing on the Lambo (really quite incredible for a 'civilian') and then ... it was time.

He fired up the Testarossa and Max - hunkered down behind the back of the car when it fired up - startled back with a "COOL!"

We let it warm-up for a couple of minutes, Shamile showing us some of the cool details and then they were off.

(funnily for us older guys, one of the things Max that was THA COOLEST was the 80's era automatic seatbelts. Now THAT was "high technology"... ; ) )

They took off and sat around looking at parts and stuff enjoying the warm Florida sun.

When they come roaring back about 30 minutes later, Max's eyes are big a saucers and there is a cheese-eating grin that won't quit.

He hops around for a couple of photos in the car (see "I promise I'll work hard in school")

Shamile tell's him "we need to throw down gangsta style" (see "Bad Boys") and the three of us are cracking up.

In short - it was perfect. (See "Mission Accomplished")

I'd like to thank Shamile for helping a father complete a promise made to his son.

And I'd like to thank the community for their endless spirit of generosity.

I look forward to my chance to return the favor someday.

    Cheers,

    Richard/Lomotpk

Way to go Shamile!!! (BTW, if you do a lot of work on the cars and it seems like you probably do, I found that a lift makes it 1000% easier and more enjoyable. Best investment IMO.)

Thanks for making a kids birthday fantastic!

    Dear Lamborghinisti,

    Wha?? :D

My primary homes are in Lake Oconee. I have a home in Sebastian Cove and the other on the 9th hole in Reynolds...accross the lake.

Haha....I did that for my neighbor's 13th birthday. I took her to school and hence she's stuck with "lambo girl" :D

Oh...I know it! I just don't have the room for a lift. I want to build a third car garage for just a lift but I'm running into setback issues.

Thanks for all the positive vibes guys. It's really all part of my motto in life..."work hard, play hard"

I'm glad Max had a good time. Too bad we had to suffer with the Ferrari instead. ;)

I had to think back to "something hydraulic" Oh, yeah... I was changing out the clutch slave cylinder....for the third time! Damn, those things leak. Oh well....daily driver... :)

So, I take Max out, we go around the first left hander and his arms spring out with a whoooow! . Next, a right hander and punch through the gears. I ask...you likey? " ahhh....huuh" ...kinda softly. hahaha!

I took him down this road for a few minutes and explain the all the switches and controls on the car. We swing back, run through the gears and punch it up to 110. I show him the speedo and he's like "really?....it doesn't feel fast" ...haha....that's the point.

A Testarossa has no girly paddle shifters so I showed him the gearshift and how to "feel" the gears. I put his hand on the shift ball and my hand on top so I let him feel how the shifter in a Ferrari is soooo different from any other car.

While we're coming back, some other kid points to the Ferrari and Max waves back with a big smile.
He's like, you're sooo lucky, you live in Florida and when your Lamborghini is being worked on, you take the Ferrari. So, I tell him...that's what all the school work is about. You work hard and then you have fun like this ( deuces come out :D)

When we got back, Richard took some photos with Max saying...one here...one there...can I sit here?

I'm really glad he had fun....that's what it's all about. I've always said, these cars are works or art and are meant to be shared. Most people only seem them from behind a velvet rope. I always get asked...."doesn't it bother you with all the questions all the time" I say, it comes with the cars...if it bothers you...buy a porsche...no one will trouble you.. :D

oh, the coolest thing about my neighborhood....no one complains when the Lamborghini comes back home at 3am every Fri and Sat. .... :D

Awesome!! This is what it's about. Seeing the smile in the pictures reminded me of a rife in a GT when I was twice his age...lol. And then the first Ferrari thanks to the generosity of a fellow member. Before I knew of this place. Just awesome that it all comes together.
