Guys, just buttoning up the two spiders 30K services. Nothing really new to report except the usual wear and tear exposed on the components etc. I had to reseal the Rack and it was the first time I have done this on an FCar. Just to let those know out there that the seals are from a Volvo S60 and cost me $90. I would rather R&R two engines that R&R another steering rack. Not a fun job. Image Unavailable, Please Login
Welcome to hell where I have been several times. I posted a seal kit for that rack sometime back. It was $35.
What was worse resealing the rack, or getting the rack out of the car then back in? I had my steering rack rebuilt by the shop that did my PPI in CA- after researching f-chat saw how big of a job it was to remove and re-install...
The grunt work of removing everything and reinstalling was tight and extensive and a pain in the butt. I was tempted to just saw it in half to teach IT a lesson (LOL!) and get it out easier. Common sense prevailed. Popping in the seals no problem.
Compared to disconnecting everything including the shafts, couplers ( includinding squeezing myself under the dash) and removing/ replacing the assembly... No question. I could put those seals in with my tongue. I feel like I just finished a 10 mile marathon with a hernia.
