Im going to replace a maf and an oil pressure sending unit. I see on posts that the ecu needs to be reset after the new maf is in. I asume this is so the ecu has a new starting point and not just to clear a code.

To reset the ecu you just disconnect the battery via the shutoff knob correct?

Yes, turn off the switch. Let the car sit for a while. Some advocate over night to make sure that all codes have been cleared and the cools down. After restoring power, there is a defined procedure that is recommended to assure that the ECUs re-learn various parameters. A very good article here on this ... https://aldousvoice.com/2013/01/16/ferrari-360-ecu-reset/#more-929

Now, just my opinion, but I do not believe you need to do this when you replace the MAF.

you can do a search, there are several posts with a procedure attached.

I followed this one, doesn't get much easier.

When I got my car, it started and drove off the truck into the driveway. Then when I went to start it again to put it in the garage, it was completely dead. I was unaware of a restart procedure and just started, warmed up and drove. Eventually got a CEL, etc.

Once I learned about the reset procedure, which is fairly common in newer cars, I followed it and feel it runs better/smoother and have not gotten any CELs since then.

Well I suppose the question is, do I really need to reset the ecu for maf replacement? I would think the ecu would adjust as you drive with the new part. Ive done ecu resets on Lotus and...it aint pretty. Relearn procedure was darn near impossible to do. Other option was to drive for 250 miles.

Here's my experience on the '03 Spider. The emission monitors wasn't setting and I narrowed it down to the MAFs. Initially I just R/R the MAFs and drove it without a reset. It ran horribly and LTFT was at 16%. I then power it down and let it sit overnight. Did the ECU relearn procedure the next morning and after about a 100 miles of driving, all monitors were set and runs great since.
