I have a 1999 Ferrari F355 GTB that needs some new tires. I am contemplating putting 295 35ZR18s on the stock factory rear wheels. (The stock tire size for the rear wheels are 265 40-18s, the fronts are 225 40-18s. I plan on replacing the front tires with the stock factory size tires.) The 295 35ZR18s for the rears are almost exactly the same circumfrence as the stock rear tires, but they are wider. Will the 295 35ZR18s require a spacer? How will a 295 size tire look when mounted on the stock rim? (The people at Tire Rack said that the 295 would mount just fine on the stock rim, but that it might look a little weird.) Also performance wise, other than the obvious benifits of a bigger contact patch, are there any pros or cons for going to 295 size tire?

I also would like your input on some different tires that I am contemplating purchasing:

Tire #1. Bridgestone Potenza S-02. (This is a different tire and not to be confused with the Bridgeston Potenza S-02A.) Bridgestone no longer makes the S-02, and from what I have heard the reason being is because of tread wear issues. The S-02 is supposed to be a softer tire with more grip than the S-02A, but it wears significantly faster than the S-02A. So has anyone put the S-02s on their Ferrari? Several Honda S2000 owners seem to think that this is the greatest tire ever made for their cars.

Tire #2. Bridgestone RE-01R. I haven't talked to any Ferrari owners that are currently driving on this tire, but I have read some pretty good reviews of this tire from other high-end sports car owners. Thoughts anyone?

Tire #3. Bridgestone RE050A. These are the current tires that I have on my Ferrari. Just potentially considering putting 295s on the rear.

Tires #4 and #5. Michelin Pilot Sport and Michelin Pilot Sport PS2. I have heard a lot about these tires, so what's the hype all about? Also what is the difference between the regular Pilot Sport and the PS2 (other than tread design.)

So that's what I'm considering. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

This has been discussed here pretty extensively. Do a search for "295 rear" in this section and you should find what you're after. :)

No problem fitting the 295 to stock rims. Look better and better performance.

Just bought Michelin Pilot Sport 2's and love them. Usually a Pirelli fan but don't think any of the stock sizes come in Pirelli's high performance tires.
