Since i have my new Nikon D 7000 for about 3 months i have a problem with resizing my pics to smaller web-versions.
before my original files were about 2-3mb, now they are up to 12mb.
when resizing them with the software i use (imageblizzard) they loose very much brilliance and sharpness.
what easy software (maybe freeware for quick download) would you recommend to resize with better quality? i will only use it for making resized webversions and maybe copyright watermarks.
see small pics, that show my problem. in high res they are brilliant!

I'm using Imagemagick's mogrify to batch resize my images. It's very efficient, just one command and you're done. And it runs under all significant operating systems.

    Image Analyzer

    http://www.heise.de/download/image-analyzer-1121815.html

operations => size & orientation => resize => bicubic spline or, if you want to enlarge, Wiener Filter, M=4

Save as jpeg => file format option => image quality standard is 90, should be o.k., but can be adjusted to 100.

    thanks for the links

i had problems to download Imagemagick's mogrify.

i tried image analyzer and the quality of the resized pic is much better than with imageblizzard. can i do the resizing of a whole folder of pics with one click - and if yes - how?

I use photoshop. (Hardly ever batch-resize)

The "save for web" feature is bliss.

thank you all. i think i have found what i needed.
i used irfan view only as a viewer but found out that i can easily do a batch conversion of big files while adding copyright at the same time.
the results are good but not as sharp as the resized pic with image analyzer.

fchat will resize the image if it is more than 800 pixels wide. By definition reduce sharpness. If I'm batch-resizing, I use FastStone Photo Resizer. It lets you place text, and water marks etc.

Another vote for Imagemagick. I have a script that auto-resizes for Ferrarichat's 800 pixel limit, adjusts contrast and saturation and then sharpens the photos. Open the directory, run the script and poof, a subdirectory with all the processed photos appears.

There are lots of other things imagemagick can do as well.
