Did search, looked at three online parts suppliers yet no complete resolution. Would like performance type instead of OEM.No one seems to sell same brand for both F&R. Some suppliers have only rears with the fronts on special order. Time get some 914-6 rears? What to do for fronts? Do front pads crossover to Porsche? Cheers to all, John.

Odd this showed up when it did, as I was just logging on to give a report on the Centric Para-Aramid brake pads I installed on my 1978 308 a few weeks ago.

My former pads were Ferodo and although hardly worn, they developed an annoying intermittent low speed squeal, and dusted up the front wheels pretty badly. Also, being a Porsche 911 guy, I was disappointed in the 308 brakes as they felt remote and a bit wooden.

I've now driven with the para-aramid pads enough to enthusiastically recommend them for street driving and to my mind, they help the 308 brakes significantly. These pads may be fantastic for track driving, too, but I just drive on the street.

The new pads still dust up the front wheels, but about half as much as the Ferodos. In other words, it is acceptable. The improvement in brake feel is quite noticeable, particularly in the satisfying "bite" as the brakes first take hold. And mercifully, there has been absolutely no squeal under all kinds of conditions- city, highway, dry, wet, hot, cold, hard stop, gentle stop.

If you look at the Rock Auto website, you'll find these for your 1977, fronts and rears. For my 78, it was only about $70 shipped, all four wheels. The anti-squeal shims are affixed to the pads and the fit was perfect. See Birdman's excellent tutorial for pad installation as the rear calipers on the 308 take a little more technique than just remove the retaining pins and pushing in the pads.

I did carefully bed in the new pads per the manufacturer's instructions, 10 braking cycles from 60 mph to 10 mph and then let them cool.

Anyway, that's a brief report for you.

    Jeff

Just as a funny observation the rear pads are the same as on my 1989 Volvo 740 rear pads. I got mine from EBC.
