Most of you guys don't remember him but he was on the old site. He was also the founder of F-talk. Rest in peace JRV.
Just heard he passed passed away. Received much advice from him in the past. So helpful, a first class enthusiast. RIP JRV
I posted some pics in the Lambo Section, Mr Ernie, on the Miura thread.... The Devil to some, a godsend to others......in the end, merely mortal, as we all are.... He was a friend of mine....his voice still rings in my ears, as he smoked another cigarette...... "Ya' jus' don't 'get it' do you, Alan?" Oh, the stories I can tell.......as I told Rob Lay this morning.. In Heaven the timing belts last forever, and the spark plugs never foul....
I think his memory will live forever...he took that pic of the babe under the hood of the 328.... I KNOW that's gone all the way around the world on the internet, and come back again!
Thanks chaa, His parents had 'gone ahead" and he had no children of his own. All the friends around the world who shared his enthusiam for Italian machines were his 'family'......... Image Unavailable, Please Login
Tex, Is this the man that helped you with your car? I thought I remember a post telling me so..... Sorry for your loss and my condolences to his family and friends.
At least now he can rest in peace, I'll never forget how stressed out he would get at the shop over the littlest things. One thing I'm guilty of it taking him to Hooters down the street from the shop. I had no idea that he'd never been there until 2003. After that we were eating there almost every day, taking very long lunch breaks, & getting very little work done. Hooters did make him a happy camper.
There is no way I could adequately Thank JRV for all his help. He got me out of some sticky situations. When he went and formed f-talk I wasn't sure it would make it - but thankfully it did. It is an excellent place for technical information. JRV went above and beyond the call of duty many times as I was learning the ropes of working on my Testarossa. When I first heard of his condition I was deeply saddened...and learning of his passing...I wept. He lived his life like he wanted - his way...and had a positive effect on many people. Personally I shall never forget him. Unfortunately I never had the chance to meet JRV in person....although I wish I could have. Rest in Peace JRV....I salute you.
RIP mate. Helped me with some technical issues on more than one occasion for which I will be forever grateful
JRV worked on my car(before it was mine) during its Major in Mar 2005, then in Aug 2005, I talked to him about buying that car as my first Ferrari. I told him that I knew nothing about Ferraris and he helped ease my fears , took 30 minutes out of his busy day to explained in detail the condition of the car that I was interested in buying. 2 weeks later it arrived and has been a great experience. I always remember that conversation and the great Ferrari memories that came from it. In memory, I'm going to put the JRV license plate frame back on the car that it arriived with in 05'. The Ferrari community has truely lost a great one. RIP JRV. Image Unavailable, Please Login
John was a great man and will be missed by many. He enjoyed helping others that had a passion for the exotics and would often help them for free if they were true enthusiasts. John's family consisted of only a hand full of very close friends and I was fortunate to be one of them enjoying every minute that I knew him. Although my relationship with John was brief (4 years) he gave me a lifetime of knowledge about Ferraris and life lessons. As I have matured over the years I have grown to understand exactly what he was teaching me all this time. This is a very difficult time for us, and I only ask that John, and his "family", be kept in your prayers. John never wanted anyone to feel sorry for him, or mourn his passing. He wanted everyone to celebrate his life by "giving someone a hand up in life, and not a boot down". I have though about setting up a memorial scholarship in John's name, or something to that effect. If anyone wants to help in that quest you can PM me to discuss. For those willing and able to attend, I will post the service information soon. There are many loose ends to tie up and I will try to be as prompt as I can. Take care, JL
