I go to New Orleans a good bit and I've eaten at some decent restaurants, I think my favorite experience and food so far has been at the Bella Luna.

Me and MyLady will be there next weekend spending some QT and I was looking for some advice from you good people on some good places for Saturday night, I need to get off my but and make reservations. And I have to keep it reasonable, she hates it when we spend too much at a restaurant and $30 for an entree is plenty for me to eat.

Some suggestions from some fellow F'Chatters who seem to know this city inside and out.

And we might need to make a little early, going to Saenger for either 7:00 or 8:00 that night, don't want to be too full and tired.

Man, that won't cover Emeril's or some of the places......

I really enjoyed Irene's Cuisine for dinner one evening, then after church Sunday morning we had Bloody Mary's and lunch at the Gumbo Shop.

Rarely in the area, maybe some others will chime in... search thru the FFQC threads for some discussion on this.

We stayed at the St. James on one trip, and really enjoyed the Windsor Court at the FFQC event.

This isn't quite what you asked, but if you happen to also be in town on Friday night Bonton Cafe uptown is my favorite restaurant in the city. They're only open M - F (definitely cater to locals). The food is amazing, ultra authentic, but without the pomp and circumstance (and price) of all the Brennan establishments. Jacques-Imo's is also really good, if a bit more pedestrian, and are open on Saturday (reservations a must). I always lean torwards more casual restaurants (no coat and tie required) so if that's not what you're looking for, these might not be your place. Hope this helps.

Try Upperline or Dick and Jenny's. Both uptown, real Nola food, and in your price range.

What kind of food do you like- helps to narrow it down a bit.

    Staying downtown I assume...

You MUST go eat at Jacques-Imo Cafe way uptown. Some of the BEST local food around, and for a decent price. The atmosphere is over-the-top Southern, lively, and always jumpin!

I know that you will have a great time there. You will not be let down! The menu is huge. In fact, I believe they have the BEST fried oysters in the city. Also, their Yellowfin Tuna is unwordly.

If you feel like spending some money, my favorite is Restaurant August. The chef, John Besh, is a family friend. He is one of the best chefs in the country. He makes this crabmeat soup that he has been making since he was the head chef at Artesia in Abita Springs. Simply the best.

One other thing, avoid Commander's Palace. Way too much hype and overly touristy in my opinion. Have eaten there dozens of times over the past 18 years and the service and food quality can be hit or miss. It used to be outstanding(cultivating chefs Paul Prudhome and Emeril Lagasse), but has since fallen off.
Especially when half of the time you order the Bread Pudding and it comes out half full!

Port of Call on Esplanade best hamburger
    Bud's Broiler, Second best hambger
Come Back in on Williams best plate lunch
Rocky and Carlo's in Chalmette most quantity and most likely to make you sick.
Mother's best breakfast, Blacken ham and grits
Russell's Marina grill, best late night food. West End. Ask Spiro, I think he eats there at 11PM every night.
Zea's best bronze trout, with grit and rosemary potato's Clearview mall
Sammy's in Buck Town best all you can eat fish on Friday's
Bear's in Covington, best roast beef po-boy.
Spitales, best dirty turkey po boy
    Carreta's Best Mexican
R&O Pizza Buck Town, best all a round sandwich with the best bread.

Now if you want to spend $300 on dinner, go any place that looks like a trap.

Hey, I used to be over 300 pounds, I know where to eat.

I've been to Tony Angelo's once, and I have to agree...unbelievable tastes when you say feed me fill you up. I would go there again when we go. I think I would rather stay around the downtown Quarter area and try not to stay too touristy, (if thats possible). And a little fancy, kind of romantic (celebrating one year/Valntines Day). I've heard Katies is a nice setting but I understand a pretty casual.

Lots of help and good suggestions from you guys of course, still googling it though. And the uptown restaurants sound pretty sweet but unless we hop a trolley we'll probalby stay downtown. Staying at the Intercontinental, one of my favorites.

I've heard about a place called Bayona, some say good, any takes on that place. Plus on Bella Luna, what do you think of it overall, I know the tuna is good, the atmosphere is relaxing, maybe along those lines is what i'm looking for. And what about Emerils, Extremely pricey? Is that an experience that we need to have or too touristy???

O, and good list Kelly, I've been to a few of those. Deenies is a place that we try once and a while. Large seafood platters, feeds 3-4 easily, atleast in my family.

And John, Restaurant August looks very very good, mylady is very picky, I'm afraid that she would have trouble eating there so that might be out. Unless they would cook her a chicken breast with noodles and butter....

Anyhow, thank you all so much for the feedback. Love you guys, keep suggestions coming if you can.

When I go to the saengar I always eat at one of the restaurants in the Ritz Carlton. It is about a block away and you can park there for free.

Victors is wonderful and the French Quarter Bar is a fun place when Jeremy Davenport is playing. Go to ritz-carlton.com and go to locations then n.o.

Bella Luna like you said is a great place to bring a date.

Jacques-Imo is a great place to eat, although normally very busy.

Nola, one of Emerils places has got a younger atmosphere to it, food I find it good as well.

    BUT HANDS DOWN:

Go to the Pelican Club. It is hidden in Exchange alley, and it has got some awesome food.

    Good Luck.

Think I'm going to go visit the Pelican Club this go round. Looks like more of what I am looking for according to the website without venturing out too far and the lady starving. It seems resonably priced and the food selection looks outstanding, only think i don't think I'll like is sitting on a bench right next to someone else, but I'll see for myself.

Thanks for the advice, now I see there are lots of different places to try that I didn't have a clue it existied. I'll be sure to give you my opinion of the place Monday morning.

    Thanks again guys,
    Josh

The Pelican Club is my favorite restaurant in New Orleans, hands down. Location, decor, quality/creativity of food, and service are consistently top notch. Reservations are recommended, but probably not necessary if you're eating at 6ish.
