I originally had plans to go with the girlfriend to Maroni's cuisine in Northport for a 20+ course tasting menu next Tuesday and that was scrapped due to them starting to close on Tuesday's starting that day.

Looking for recommendations on a place to go eat more centered towards great food, though if in the city a great view would be nice also. Any recommendations up to $100 per person no Sushi though?

    Thanks guys

You can't go wrong with Bryant and Cooper in Roslyn or Peter lugar in great neck. I was at maroni Friday nite. Truly an epicurean delight.

I was actually at Bryant and Cooper last night with the girlfriend. Very good as usual. Glad to hear Maroni's was an experience I've been meaning to go now for months. I'm looking forward to trying it sometime soon.

I searched and still didn't find too much. It was limited to other people's requests, mainly steak houses and Italian. Also Per Se popped up in every other post, and though I've heard nothing but GREAT things about them it's outside of what I want to spend right now.

Any moderately priced French places with good food?

I did find plenty of Italian spots from searching we can try, just looking to mix it up.

For French cuisine try Casis on Wall St. in Huntington Village.

Well. if you factor in the impossible to overstate impact Caterina di Medici had on French cuisine . . .

(Before she showed up the French had no clue what a utensil was, had no clue how to do anything but roast meat, with exotic animal roasts marking special occasions -- and that was in Court! Seems that French aristocracy hadn't discovered the treasure that was/is peasant food, whereas Renaissance Italian gentry and aristocrats, with their far more rational, more benevolent, joyous outlook, took the very best of everyday commoner cooking and made it their own.)

The major problem LI restaurants have is that Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan are a drive away. The other problem is that there simply isn't enough population density for truly great restaurants to make it (see how many big Manhattan names have tried to make in Americana, only to fail (I think Payard, who really went all out, was the last to fall.)

There is a fun, quality neoBistro you may want to consider, in Wheatley Plaza, Greenvale:

Throughout last year the beautiful people dominated the scene. It's finally settled into what seems to be a nice grove.

There's plenty of good parking, every other car in this shopping center MSRPs at over $80K, and just about everyone stops and stares at any sports car of note (envy, genuine car-love, what's the difference in terms of the chances of you finding your car the way you left it?)

If you feel like giving sushi one last shot, Italteen3, try Matsuya in Great Neck:

    http://matsuyasushi.com/

The decor is nuvo cheesy-neat and the parking lot is a nightmare. Their House Creations roles are exquisite and, on Friday and Saturday nights at least, as good as anything you'd get in a great but not famous Manhattan place. They're pricey: six roles and a bottle of Moet will just about kill $200 (tax and tip included.)

I hope this was worth your while, Italteen3

(When shooting Julie and Julia, location scouts had an easier time finding real looking bistros in NYC than they did in Paris. Manhattan is packed with them.)
