I'll be up in NYC for a few days during the week and was wondering if any of you guys had suggestions for some quality dining, preferably in Midtown, that won't require shirt and tie or leave an especially large dent in the checkbook.

On a side note, anyone know if Miller Motorcars has a Veyron in the showroom?

There are TONS of restaurants Midtown. Are you going to be midtown east or west? Del Frisco's on Sixth Ave (around 51st or 52nd I think) is a nice steak house... Grand room, elegant, not cheap, but nowhere near the ridiculous prices of many Manhattan "greats". Tao, on 57th (right next door to the Four Seasons hotel) is one of the most impressive spaces I've ever seen. Food is probably only a 7 or an 8 out of ten (except the Wasabi crusted filet is awesome). WELL worth the visit for the room alone, in my opinion.

Anyway there's just so much it's hard to narrow down w/out more info.

Avra, Greek food, is really good as well.

I'd make the trip downtown though if I were you....little less touristy

Basically I'm with a friend from out of the country and wanted to treat him some nice, quality dinner without paying the ridiculous prices that so many New York places are known for (no Masa, Nobu, etc). East or West Midtown would work, tho I could take the train on to Downtown as well. It would be nice to keep the price under $30-35 per entree with a great atmosphere, good food (don't particularly care about the flavor/ethnicity), a dress code that doesn't require more than a nice shirt and decent pair of slacks etc. That probably didn't narrow much down at all tho:).

Also, not requiring a reservation might help as well, since I'm trying to keep the schedule pretty loose.

Let me know if you have trouble getting into tao. Although I dont like going there much (it has become too touristy and the staff is just downright rude) I still have some connections there. Their mojitos are amazing as is the wasabi encrusted filet.
