    Good day Brian,

I, too, was amazed at the dash's condition... The car must have been forgotten/ignored for the dash to get in this state...

The rest of the interior looks pretty tired too... and so a full redo will certainly cost some $$$.

    Cheers,

    Sam

I bet that the car stayed a long time outdoor.
The sun has damaged the dash and the paint of the car.
    Look forward the SN !

If the best thing THOSE guys could find to say about it is that the engine turns freely by hand it must be even worse than it looks. Looks like the bitter end to me.
A carbed 5 speed would have already been re-bodied if in that state. I suspect this one will meet a similar end eventually. I don't think even Mitch would have the stomach for this one.

Asking $19,500 on a 400i that does not run suggests somebody sees strength in the market. Not that long ago this would have asking half that and lucky to move.

I'm withholding judgment until it actually sells. Paying that price for an automatic 400i in the U.S. and getting it running and up to an attractive roadworthy condition will put the buyer seriously underwater IMO.

    just soo sad to see 400i in this state of decay! BHCC seems to know what they are doing by their other cars and over time kept checking their site and they do move cars in those shapes. Let's see if and when it sells;

So dig this. A few months ago I almost bought a 308. I was the first caller, etc...but I wanted to see the car first. BHCC ended up getting the seller to sell the car to them overnight and the seller agreed. I went to look at the car anyway. The seller was asking $18,500......and that's what BHCC bought it for. They sent a couple of dudes and an open trailer and a tarp to haul it down to CA and a couple of weeks later it appeared on their site for $28,500. Another week or so and it was marked "SOLD".

Now, here are the pictures on BHCC's website.
    1980 Ferrari 308GTS

Here are the pictures I took in person. The car was a turd....bondo, rust, overspray, interior crappy--you name it.

If that doesn't sum it up, I don't know what does. In the BHCC pictures the car doesn't look half bad..but it was horrible. In the 400i case, the pictures actually look pretty bad--which means the car must be absolutely knackered.

The thread I started about the 308 is here:

Indeed if a car looks horrible in pictures it does not happen often it is better in real life.
I remember seeing a BMW E9 CS at BHCC that nobody in their right mind would even contemplate to restore. It is not on their website anymore so it might be sold... They have an odd mix of absolute rust buckets, cars that look they came straight out of a junk yard - where the car in question sat for 25 years with everything exposed to the elements -with some seemingly nice stuff added in.
This makes it hard to believe their nice looking inventory is actually nice - though it might be.

You would be in way over what it's worth to bring it all the way back and then you're still left with an automatic.

Not surprising from a dealer constantly plastering ads in enthusiast rags for exotics wanted any condition.
Aren't this place and Gullwing where old exotics go to die? Or wait for a fool with stars in his eyes?

A long time ago I briefly owned a 1976 Eldorado convertible. It was a poorly dummied up rust bucket but it sure looks gorgeous in the couple of old snap shots I still have of it.

Wow, I'm speechless! "Fright pig" doesn't even begin to describe that mess. That is why I can't imagine buying any car based on dealer pictures and description. I have to see a car in person before even thinking about buying.
