So, I’ve been wanting to finish or restore this 3500 GT air box that I got from Kyle Flemming years and years ago.

I was finally able to recreate the font in the correct “teal blue” and “yellow”. The font on the decal had to be re-made, as believe it or not, it’s not in any database or international font data base that I could find. I used part of Ivan Ruiz’ decal from his former 58 (?) Frua Spyder Prototipo and my one original air box I had to recreate the exact factory decal/washing instructions.

Next was the paint, it’s not just a flat black satin paint. And it’s not a wrinkle type finish either. Rather, it’s a “textured finish” which has some “grain” in it, some auto manufacturers use it on gauge cluster and dashboard components.

Anyway, I located some, ($350 per pint) and gave it a nice or first spray in correct materials.

Next was a correct reproduction FISPA data tag with correct rivets, which turned out well.

    Just sharing with “detail geeks”.

I’m aware that there really is no 100% definitive way to restore these cars, I restored this air box, using two original paint and part air boxes, one from 1958 and the other from 1960. One of the original air boxes I bought just to confirm the type of paint and font on the decal.

If you need a FISPA decal send me a PM, I have extra for the 3500 crowd.
